first impressions Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
looks to be well made, like the heatsink case looks modern, knobs are a joke they just wibble and wobble like a belly dancer on a wet floor realy the need to supply some bushes to us to mend the cock up.microphones have been said to be quite not supprised its blocked up with a plastic cover know one not even yaesu no why its there. drill a 1mm hole in it that should give you more audio it is under the electret in front of mike caseing.base feet not rubberised so it will slip around use a rubber mat to sit radio on.altogether a nice radio but quality has dropped over the years no better than what cb,s are made shame but made in china, but a nice price, if it goes wrong bin it,will not become a classic as i won,t last log enough to be one,let you know what it sounds like when i get my ham radio licence in the next month God willing...jeff ps nice but how the mighty yaesu have fallen kenwood and icom are better by far.

Great radio for price Time Owned: 6 to 12 months.
I have 2 of these. One in my car for about one year and one working almost 24/7 like EchoLink base rig for about 9 month. No problems at all. Great audio, easy to program. Great cheap basic 2 meter radio.

Great radio for the Money Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I have 2 of these. One in the car for 3 years, and 1 as the shack 2m rig for about 1 year. No problems with either. I especially like the "hidden" menu to adjust power and deviation levels, very handy for using it to drive an amp. (I turned down high power to 38 watts, to keep from blowing amp input)and the track tuning seems to work well. Low inter-mod. Receive sensitivity seems to be good. Price is extremely good. Whats not to like?. A good solid, quite performer, at least for me.

Not Bad Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I installed a new FT-2800 in my vehicle about 2 years ago. I have had no real problems with it, just a few inconveniences. In my opinion the tuning knob is too easily turned, it's easy to accidentally change frequencies. When using a repeater there is always a noise burst when the repeater drops, I did not experience that with my IC-V8000. The external speaker jack is in a really inconvenient place. On the plus side I like the no-noise cooling, the WX feature, and the reliability.

good radio for price Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I use ft-2800m for main radio in car.
it always works.
I will recommend ft-2800m to any one except.

I put O-ring around volume and squelch knob, so knob are not so loose. there are space between outer shaft of knob to recessed control panel, I saw commercial version of similar radio already have O-ring installed , so knob are not so loose, I also did same but much bigger 22 mm OD 1mm width O-ring so frequency control knob is not so loose.

Fine little radio! Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I bought this radio as a “buy-it-now” off eBay about a year ago for $50. I wasn’t sure what I’d be getting but when it arrived it was as-new and had all brackets/documentation. I’ve used it about a year and have been very pleased, absolutely no problems. The audio reports I receive are great, and the receiver is very sensitive. The down side is that the functions have a fairly steep learning curve but are pretty easy to remember once learned. The controls on the front are a little touchy – you can bump the tuning control and be off frequency without noticing. However, the pluses far outweigh the minuses for me. A good, tough little radio that delivers all it promises – I sure wouldn’t mind having another if I could find it for the right price!

Solid rig, great audio reports Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I have this radio in my mobile going into a well tuned 5/8 wave Wilson mag mount. The radio has been a solid performer. I get great audio reports. I have not had any of the problems others have reported. Apparently it's the luck of the draw regarding QC at the factory.

I like 65 watts and no fan. I have mine mounted under the dash with plenty of airflow over the heat sink.

Some things I don't like.. The tuning knob is quite sensitive. I often find myself off the channel I thought I was in because I accidentally brushed the tuning knob. The programming procedures can be tedious--mainly because the button labeling on the front is confusing and the buttons are overloaded with functionality depending on how long they're held down and the mode the radio's in at the moment. I've seen better manuals--and worse too.

For the price, I believe this radio is a great value.

Excellent Radio Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I bought mine at HRO San Diego as the dual band I was using quit on the 2 meter side so I bought the FT2800 as I only needed 2 meters for IRLP use. The radio out of the box works perfectly. I've had no problems and I've had mine since 2004. You just can't beat this radio very easy to program and use. Go ahead and buy one, you wont go wrong.

Poor Audio Out Time Owned: 6 to 12 months.
My Son-In-Law bought one at the Huntsville Hamfest last year. Great receive, but the audio out sounded like it was off frequency. Sent it back to HRO and got another to replace the one with poor audio out. New one sounded the same as the one sent back in. Guess he will learn to live with it. Not the quality audio of Kenwood, Icom or even Alinco. It's a real shame. Otherwise the radio is a great radio. Every FT-2800M that I have heard sounds exactly the same. Too bad Yaesu can't build a 2 meter radio with clear audio out. Has anyone else received reports of this problem. Don't know if it is a bad microphone or what. Sure doesn't sound good.

Good for the money Time Owned: more than 12 months.
Agree that the front panel should have bushes for the vol & sql - I made and fitted my own bushes in less than 15mins. I can accept that on a radio that is cheap to purchase - on the plus side, nice display, sensitive wide-band rx and no noisy cooling fan. What does intrigue me is how none of the IC756 PRO owners mention the lack of bushing on that radio and we are talking about an £1800 radio - no excuse if you are paying that kind of money.
