SIMPLY THE BEST Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I have been using KK7TV, Randy, for all my electronics repairs, receivers, transceivers, etc. for many years and will continue to do so. His pricing is very fair and nothing but top notch repairs and alignments. Never once was I dissatisfied and turn around time within a couple of weeks. Don't know how it could get any better. If you have ever talked to Randy on the air or phone, he definitely tells it like it is, the only way to be. Some of you "thin skinned" chronic crybabies only deserve to use someone else and get substandard work done but have your butts kissed............. Randy, keep up the good work and many thanks for being there. You will continue to get all my work and anyone I can refer to you. 73 Rick

Quality Service Time Owned: more than 12 months.
My IC-775DSP auto tuner failed. Since the radio is 4 years old I asked Randy to go over the whole thing and calibrate it. I also decided to have the CR-282 crystal oven installed.

since I don't have the gear to properly service the radio I went to Randy. He's local and on my side of town, Phoenix Arizona.

He determined the tuner failure in minutes after pulling the cover off. Randy ordered the parts from Icom and then a hic-cup! He asked for second day delivery and they sent it ground. So, there was a delay in the overall repair.

He installed the repair parts, installed the CR-282, and calibrated the entire radio.

He told me the s-meter was way off and the 775 is now perfect. He likes the radio since it is service friendly.

He also reminded me to use the proper screw driver bit to avoid damaging the metric soft metal screws.

Total down time 5 working days due to shipping delays from Icom.

I read some negative reviews here. Randy does factory authorized service for not just Ham Radio but the consumer electronics world too. He won't satisfy everyone since he often gets equipment that the end user has tried to fix and ended up making it worse. Thus the service is more costly, and requires longer repair time.
What may have been a simple repair has become major surgery!

He may place a Ham radio repair aside to fix a warranty consumer electronics device. This is not unreasonable since the consumer electronic side generates the larger income. This is a business and profit is the motivator.

I trust Randy's abilities and understand when there are delays or when he tells someone the item for repair is no longer worth the expense, and you should junk it and buy a new one! A new product will be cheaper and often better than fixing the old obsolete non repairable unit.

As we all know the consumer world has evolved to a disposable product.

I recomend Randy for Ham Radio service, but I also tell you to be patient if the repair takes longer than the original estimate.

There are lots better out there... Time Owned: 6 to 12 months.
I agree with the comments made here.....I called a while back about a fairly simple older Kenwood repair, involving replacing an S-meter lamp,
and was given the "just buy a new radio" story.
There are plenty of good repair houses out there
that actually want your business...give them a call...not this one.

Poor service Time Owned: more than 12 months.
Sent my alinco DR 600 there mid december 2003 for a no xmit problem of UHF. Randy stated that it would probably take about 3 to 4 weeks. After 3 to 4 weeks I began sending him weekly e-mails inquiring about the status of the repair and every week I would get another excuse. Finally after 3 months time I requested that he return the radio if not repaired by a certain date. Well that date approached, I inquired again. This time he stated that it was fixed but he missed UPS. 2 days later I received an e-mail that he couldn't fix it and was sending it back unrepaired. Told me to "treat myself to a new rig".

Unfortunately, I must concur with the previous post on Randy's apparant poor service attitude. It definitely does need an adjustment. He just doesn't care and Hams, like any other shopper, will not tolerate his lousy "superior" attitude.

Randy Disappoints Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I called Randy today about working on my 1980's vintage HT (Yaesu FT-727). I explained it needed to have its volume control/power switch replaced. He told me to "forget it." I explained I really enjoy old gear and wanted the HT repaired. He said, "I charge $75 and hour plus shipping. It's not worth it. Go buy a new radio." He was pleasant but not helpful. After reading the other reviews here, I can only ask, "What is with this guy?" Doesn't he want business? I wouldn't mind paying a few extra bucks to get a vintage radio in working order...but unfortunately Randy doesn't agree. In short, my advice is: Don't waste your time on Randy.

Promises made, no delivery Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I saw ad in QST of ICOM service. I was activating an IC-765 that has had 20 yrs of service, but had been inactive for awhile. It operated fine except for two things: the 10db attenuator was dead; sometimes the TR switching seemed crusty and I figured the TR relay should be replaced.
In July I contacted kk7tv, and arranged to bring by the rig the first week of Sept for "in by ten, out by five" service since I was making a trip to Phoenis for that purpose as I drove from Dallas to Yuma, AZ. I reconfirmed and fine tuned arrival several times.
I arrived a day earlier than planned, and dropped the rig off so he would have an extra day. Randy was not there when I dropped it off at 10 am. I called back about 2 pm to see if all was well, and Randy told me he would not service my rig as promised since he thought it "looked like I had dragged it behind me on a rope." The cabinet was not perfect, but the rig had just worked country number 322 for me a few days earlier. After I reminded him of all our previous conversation, he said maybe he might look at it anyway. I then arranged to stay a week in the 107 degree weather to give him time. I told him exactly when I would be leaving.
On the last full day, I called at 10 am to tell them again that I would be by at 5 pm to get the radio. When I arrived to pick it up, the radio has not been touched. Randy handed it to me and asked if I wanted any rope to tie it behind the car.

My conclusion: Don't believe anything you are told, Randy will tell you "no matter what I said, this is what I might do, if I decide to do anything". And don't hang your hat on that! Make sure your rig has a good looking cabinet or it may not get serviced at all.
