Can't say enough good things... Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I had my CAT port on my FT-1000MP go out in September, 2009 prior to the start of the contesting season. Unfortunately due to the backlog of work Byron had he could not service my unit until January. Thankfully the ham who sold me the radio had a loaner FT-1000MP that I used until I was able to get mine repaired.

I cannot for sure when my unit was last serviced (if at all). After e-mailing Byron I used the recommendations from his site and had the radio boxed by UPS and insured. It was about $120 for packaging and shipping from California.

As this was my main transceiver, price was really no object and I was quoted about $150. Seemed reasonable, since I was not about to work on it myself. Once he got it on the bench he repaired CAT function, applied 1st IF Amp. mod. and replaced AUX 13.5 VDC output FUSE (RF Unit board), applied NB mod (IF Unit board), Alignment and checked and found mods already in place: CW keying de-Click & fast-AGC mod.

All in all the it was inside of 2 weeks from the time I sent it to the time I received it, with shipping be about 10 days (via UPS and FedEx). I received e-mails from Byron with the information on the repair, as well as the invoice and tracking number.

The communication and service received from Byron was OUTSTANDING! I cannot say enough about his service. Hopefully I don't need to use him again, but if the FT-1000MP goes south, I will not hesitate to ship it back to him for repairs. I highly recommend his services!

Simply The Best On Yaesu Time Owned: 3 to 6 months.
What can you say that hasn't been already said about Byron. I personally delivered my 1000D to Byron. A little over 300 mile drive for me and it was well worth it just to meet him. When I returned to pick up the radio he gave me a service invoice detailed with a complete history of what he checked, parts replaced, and the alignment. The bill was less than I thought it would be. It was well within what he states on his website.
He took the time to explain several things to me that I had asked. I could tell he knows what he is doing and talking about. I asked Byron what radio he used and showed me a HF rig he is building and currently using. Also took the time to tell me about building it. You could not meet a nicer person and being a Yaesu repairman is a added bonus.
My FT-1000D is my pride and joy and would not trust it with anybody else. I would not hesitate to brag on this guy and tell other hams to send their Yaesu's to Byron for any repair work or alignment work.
WA4GEG is Simply The Best. Check out his web site.

Supreme/Excellent Time Owned: more than 12 months.
Had sent my trusted FT-1000D to the factory with bad results (came back in worse condition). Shipped it to Byron, he provided excellent service and have now received it back. Working better than NEW. Byron gets all of my work.

Your won't go wrong...!

Unbelievable Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I sent my 1000mp mkv to Byron with tuner issues, etc. Had him put in a roofing filter alignment fix tuner. Price was good, communication was better and the rig came back to me better than factory condition. If I ever have anything (yaesu) that needs work I'll gladly send it too him. He's a credit to his field!! Thanks Byron

FANTASTIC! Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I recently acquired a mint FT-1000D and sent it to Byron to upgrade the ROM Version to 6.0. He also added the Inrad Roofing Filter the Inrad 2.8 filter. Byron aligned the rig and the reports are fantastic! I am excited to know I have a rig for life! I am also happy to find an honest, reliable repair engineer, hopefully for life!

FT-1000XX repair - excellent Time Owned: more than 12 months.
My FT-1000mp suddenly showed skyrocketing SWR, and after some research I thought it might be the SWR bridge. Ordered the parts from YAESU and made the replacement, but not without the troubliing feeling that I was in over my head. The repair really just changed the problem and did not fix it. Being blessed with 10 thumbs, I decided a strategic retreat was in order and shipped it to Byron.

He has detailed instructions on shipping and gave an accurate estimate of the repair time by e-mail.

Shipping it to and from Canada had its own frustrations care of Homeland Security and Canada Customs, but that just reflects the crazy times in which we live.

Byron fixed the radio, checked all my mods, added his own IF mod and realigned the radio. He gave a detailed report on the work done and returned the replaced parts, all for a reasonable price.

I am delighted with the outcome. The radio is quieter and the audio cleaner.

Byron has a great web site for the FT1000XX series and I recomment it to all with these radios.

Highly recommended.

Deserves a 6 out of 5 Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I obtained my beloved FT-1000MP from it's third owner, it started it's life in the South China Seas on the 1996 Scarborough Reef DX pedition and it has not been serviced since, I was so happy to be the owner of such an austere radio that I sent it of (naturally) to Byron Campbell THE FT-1000MP guru, not only did it come back with any niggling little problems I noticed fixed, but Byron installed a 455KHZ IF output form the first RX so I could monitor the signals on my Yaesu YO-301, the signal level was perfect for the 'scope. Full documentaion of his work and an extremely pleasant bill made another experience with Byron a very good thing, don't go any where else for your FT-1000 needs

Real Radio Technician Time Owned: 3 to 6 months.
Yaesu (Vertex) couldn't or wouldn't fix my Mk-V. They said "lightning strike." No lightning here in months. Then they said "power surge." Nope, have $$$ surge protection. Then they said "we can't get the boards anymore." Boards? Ah! Can anyone spell "parts changers?"

I had pretty much resigned myself to locating and purchasing another Mk-V, but fumbled and bumbled my way into this review site. What the heck, I said, why not? WA4GEG's comment follows:

"Something is definitely amiss as it really is not difficult to tell the difference between lightning damage and the VERY COMMON MARK-V T/R CIRCUITRY FAILURE..." Really?

I had the Yaesu yahoos ship it to him. His sight unseen dianosis was spot on, and my Mk-V is home, performing better than ever. His bill included components for which he charged pennys, and the description of his work was excellent, very detailed.

If you have a Mk-V and are experiencing problems, contact Byron. Send it to the yahoos at Yaesu if you like, but odds are if you want it fixed, it will eventually end up in Tennessee.

If you buy a Mk-V, you might want to consider having it shipped to Byron before you get it home. Check out his website to see why. A real tech, how rare is that these days?

Credit where credit is due, yahoo did pay to have my Mk-V shipped to Byron. Now that's customer service! Unfortunately, they couldn't or wouldn't fix their own product.
