If you like extra-high quality FM equipment, this is great! Time Owned: 6 to 12 months.
I have been operating FM since the 1960's and always liked the way Motorola equipment worked. I began with the old dynamotors and vibrators and then the solid state units. Recently I obtained three Syntor-X trunkmount units and thought I'd put them to the test---simultaneous operation on all FM bands (except 220!) up to 450 mhz. And I want to tell you, I am thrilled. When you recieve the package from Chris at Piexx, you can tell this is a quality piece of work. Basically you remove the old personality board from your 'boatanchor' and replace it with a nicely constructed board that turns it into a state of the art marvel. This is the same for all bands, including the VHF low band which cover both 10m and 6m in the same radio! Keep the power plug polarization plug correct and you are on the way. If the unit is not sensitive enough (mine are!) Chris also has a small additional board that along with your signal generator, will allow you to peak your Syntor X to any particular part of the band.

And, talk about service, Chris is top-drawer. If it were not for my many questions, I would never have found out about it. When one of the boards didn't seem to work on my radio, it was returned and new one sent back immediately. And don' kid yourself, this guy knows Syntors. There is a rumor that Chris might even be increasing the channel capacity even higher (it's 40 now) and adding even more and different scanning features. If you want a truly bullet-proof radio and the ability to control it with your computer, give this a try.
