Well worth having Time Owned: 3 to 6 months.
I use this rig to drag around between lounge, garden and car for rx. It`s small enough to tuck into the glove box of the car when parked up and fits in a small slot above the car radio when in use, you can angle the head so that you can see the display very clearly. It`s got to be one of the easiest units to send a freq to memory while driving and the ability to watch(and see) two freqs at once is simply superb. I haven`t used it in tx and would imagine that it would be ok but you might want something more substantial if you are into 2Mtrs but as a light portable rig it has got to beat most hand held scanners for mobile control. A previous post mentioned lack of airband! mine works just fine( set up is at power up) and AM rx around 154-166 is as good as you would want. Is it affected by breakthrough from pagers etc? yes, but in my opinion not that bad and there is always a bit of compromise that you have to pay for size and features.I find it very sensitive to weak signals. The speaker is loud enough even when pushed into the cubby hole at the dash board. The fan can be set up to be on all the time or when wanted and when in the car I keep the fan on all the time to keep it cool.I gave it a 5 because the pros outweigh the cons.
1. nice large display
2. easy to find the knobs while mobile.
3. the joy of watching and hearing two freqs
4. portability.
5.good clean sharp audio.
6. multi function mike
etc,etc.

Why AM?/UHF fault Time Owned: 3 to 6 months.
I have had my 2725e 4 months the over all performance is ok very sensitive rx but suffers from breakthrough from strong out of band signal paging and tetra. The unit developed a tx fault on uhf no output although read out indicated rf output, inthe fault state the unit draws 10 amps on all output levels. The radio was retuned to Icom UK and they replace r102 and added heat pads was this a mod?
The adverts for the radio say Airband receive but I know of three people that have the radio and as received from the supplier the radio does not receive air band. So why the AM? do you have to mod the radio by removing diodes? and if you do so will your warranty be void?

mostly good Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
The radio works well now that some faults have been fixed and limitations noted.

The display is very clear as long as it is mounted on your left and it is sunlight-readable (unlike the IC2800).

It is prone to blocking and intermodulation by strong out of band signals - mostly radiopaging. The internal attenuator helps a bit.

There is some interaction between the attenuator on one side and the signal strength on the other side when both side are set to the same band.

The signal strength bars are not very helpful. The number of bars goes from '1' to 'all' with as input power goes from -120dBm to -110dBm!

There were 2 dry joints on the circuit board which intermittently prevented the set sending on 2m and stopped the squelch output on the data socket. These joints had never been soldered and have been missed by Icom manufacturing and by Icom UK when the set was sent for repair.

Now that it is installed and all working I am quite pleased.

poor rejection !!! just no good enough Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
Nice radio in general but I live near to a large mast with pagers on and the icom just cannot cope it gets completly swamped when the Yaesu FT2800M has no problems it look nice and all seems fairly good but if you live or operate near to any pagers forget this radio it doesn't cut it !!!!
good dx
