Great Service Time Owned: more than 12 months.
Always had a good experience with Icom Service. Seems to me that the gentleman with low output might check his antenna or cable connections. High SWR will cut back your output power and that's a good thing!

Suspect........ Time Owned: more than 12 months.
As far as ordering parts for my Icom gear, and getting clarification on some things in their product service manuals, I've had good experience with Icom America Technical Staff.

However.......

I've never sent anything to Icom for repair. Never had to. I would if I had a problem with Icom gear under warranty. All my used equipment, and equipment out of warranty I maintain myself. As semi-retired from over 30 years in Avionics Service, no reason not to. With access to much test equipment of my own, and from many associates repair labs with most anything I could need to work on my own gear, as long as I'm physically able, I will continue to work on my own gear. I enjoy it, and it keeps skills at a decent level.

I thought "hams" knew enough basic electronics to at least be able to accomplish simple service on their equipment. And, at the very least, know enough basics about how their own gear works to be able to troubleshoot and know whether the gear really has a performance problem, or not. It's not that way after reading some of the razing comments about Icom America Repair, and others.

Think about it and "soul search" to find who's really "incompetant" (sic).

Take some pride in yourself and learn how your equipment is supposed to work, and how to properly maintain, and operate it. Spend less time criticizing others for something you should know how to do yourself as a "ham".

Incompetant Time Owned: 3 to 6 months.
I sent an IC-718 to be checked because the power output on SSB was low. Roughly 50 watts. They returned the radio saying that the ALC had been tampered with and that the radio was in fact outputing 150 watts. They stated they had adjusted to factory specs. The radio had never been tampered with, and had never been abused. It had only been used on 20M SSB.

I received the radio in the same condition I sent it to them for; low output power. This should have been corrected under warranty, but instead, they didn't correct the problem and billed me for and hour of labor @ $84 an hour.

I will never buy another new Icom product, and will never send another piece of equipment to Bellview WA to be repaired.

Fantastic Time Owned: 6 to 12 months.
My IC-7700 had bad finals (bad MRF 150s no fault of ICOM'S) -- sent rig back to ICOM a few months back -- IC-7700 working great since -- even had a call from the product specialist making sure I was satisfied -- U BET !!!

Rig lost display Time Owned: more than 12 months.
Sent my 756 pro to Icom America. They called and said needed new display but they discontinued the 756pro display and will substitute a pro 111 display. $300.

Got rig back and rig was packed in another box as I had sent it in original box with packing by Icom from a previous repair. Would have liked to have original box for resale later.

The display was "smeared" i.e. all the writing looked like someone had wiped the "ink" before it dried. Will call Icom and discuss.

I can understand not having replacement parts for a 10 year old radio but when they said they were going to go with a pro3 display, I assumed it would have been out of stock production.

Excellent service Time Owned: 3 to 6 months.
Sent my pro 3 to Icom in Bellvue for repair. The 6 meter transmit went out for some reason and had to send it in to be fixed. I sent it to Bellvue instead of Icom Southeast as I had BAD luck with them! (See my review of Icom Southeast) Service was excellent! They got the radio, kept it a couple of days, had it fixed and sent it right back to me. Radio was gone only a little over 2 weeks including transit time back and forth. I will definitely be using the in the future if the need ever arises.
Thanks Icom!

Good, Competent Warranty Service Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
On Christmas Eve I purchased an IC-746 PRO 02 with PS-125 switching power supply. Two months to the day, the rig would not power up, and the LED on the PS was flashing between dim and bright.

An email to Icom Technical Support describing the problem was answered with a suggestion to send the PS-125 in to be looked at.

Turns out an OP Amp, IC11, had failed. The repair was covered by warranty. The packing for return shipping was markedly better than the packing I did to send it.

I'm very happy with my new Icom IC-746 PRO 02 and cannot fault Icom Repair Service in any way.

They did NOTHING! Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I am at wit's end with Icom. Up until recently, I have been a lifelong customer of Icom since the late 70's when first licensed. To make a long story short, I recently purchased a new ProIII to replace my aging, 11 year old original model (non Pro) 756, to be used as my main HF/6 station rig. The rig has some very evident DSP artifact issues on CW receieve, mainly annoying 'pops', 'clicks', and what appears to be distortion, no matter which filters are selected, or whether noise reduction is in the 'on' or 'off' position. In addition, the main tuning knob feels too tight (the torque screw does not work), and it makes a noise when tuning as if there is something wrong internally with the tuning mechanism. I sent the rig to Icom, and apparently they did not do anything to it! Upon receiving it back from Icom, the rig STILL exhibits clearcut DSP artifacts on CW (my other less expensive DSP rigs like the FT-450 do not), and the tuning knob is STILL too tight and makes noise!!! I don't think Icom America did anything with my ProIII, and I am at the point where I want my money back from Icom USA, and with good reason. Icom, you just lost a lifelong customer.

Hard Earned Money Down The Drain! Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I sent one of my 765's to Icom America. It exhibited common symptoms found in the Knowledge Base Articles, so I thought they'd have no problem fixing it. I thought twice about sending it to them due to the mixed reviews of their work, and the shipping costs. I asked that they repair an RX problem, and do the VCO trimmer update. Sounds simple right? Well $300+ later the RX problem is still there, AND You guessed it, out of warranty because the repair was more than 30 days old. Even after sending them the radio TWICE they couldn't get it repaired. Even had the nerve to suggest that the RX jumpers "must not have been inserted" Save yourself time and money and avoid Icom America Repair like the plague!

Very satisfied! Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
Sent my older Icom 706 Mk II in because it wouldn't transmit on 2 meters. They realligned it and sent it back. No problems until a week or so later until it did it again (or at least I thought). Sent it back and they found nothing wrong with the radio. It appears I may have thrown it into the wrong mode so it was my own fault it wouldn't work right! They readjusted the settings and sent it back at no charge. Quick turnaround and I would use them again any time.
