Efficient Time Owned: 3 to 6 months.

I just received my ic-703 back from icom's service department in Washington state.

The entire proceeding was very satisfactory. They were efficient and business like. My rig was sent to them because of damage from being dropped.

Icom notified me via email when they received the Ic-703. They also notified me with a UPS tracking number when they shipped the unit back two weeks later.

While the rig was there they adjusted the driver bias and added a ground to they keyer jack.

Parts and costs were itemized.

The cost to me was about what I expected.

I have owned Icom radios since the mid 1970's and think the products and company are outstanding.

high vacume-bad bad bad Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I'm sorry to say, good news is good, but bad news travels fast. Last time I needed a rig repaired, it was in and out of ICOM, no problems. but I guess it's a new world we live in, and after being a hard core ICOM fan, the love afair is about over.
1st, my IC-718 rec died, due to "lighting". seems that field day last june, somewhere between my radio shack and motor home, the rig was struck by lightning. ( apperently while I was carrying it out to the motor home 500 ft away ) ...
I also had a 4GAT my brother gave me that didn't work, cause unknown. I drove over 2 1/2 hours each way to take them to ICOM AMERICA, "sure we can fix em no problem". Then I went to the main office to request access to the "HAM SHACK" where on display and set up for operations is alot of the newest ICOM equipment. Last time at icom, no nig deal, ca'mon in. However this time we were denied access and told we needed an appointment. As disappointing as this was, ok, I'll deal with it. So after rec' 2 calls from ICOM confirming both rigs were fixed and ready for pickup, I called to make a reservation for the ham shack. well, I was passed to at least 4 clueless people, then pigion holed to someones voice mail, that I never heard from. So I went to get my equipment anyway. When we arrived, the ht was ready but the 718 was awaiting diodes, and would not be ready untill mid December. WHAT! ok, again, i'll deal with it. So maybe not a total loss of another 5 hrs travel time, we asked at the front desk again for access to the ham shack, well after several minets, someone came up front and allowed us in, however we only were there about 10 minets because we were interfearing with employees lunch time. WOW.. I was so ticked, I wanted to take all my ICOM equipment and pile it on their door step and set it on fire, fortunatly, I don't have a truck big enough to carry all this ICOM equipment. . . . Needless to say, I wish I could find Mr Inouqe e-mail address. I just can't believe this stuff. I'm sure he would be as angry as I am...
ok theres more...
When I get home with my newly rebuilt 4GAT, ( with the $180 repair bill ) I power it up, fine. I program my repeater, all is good, but the audio sounds terrible.. In checking I found the transmit frequency is +4 khz, and the DTMF pad isn't working....
YIKES I can't believe the repair shop would be this careless and let this go out the door like this.
Mybe it's time for a reorg.
Dan kb7uxe, a very very unhappy customer.

A+++ Time Owned: 6 to 12 months.
My 756PROII took a indirect lightning strike 1 month after I bought it.
Shipped it to Icom & they repaired it NO CHARGE.
The only cost was $22.00 to ship it to them.
They shipped back to me at their cost.
A1 service & repair.

Problem Solved Time Owned: 3 to 6 months.
I had a ProII with an intermittent problem so I was a little worried that Icom wouldn't be able to duplicate the problem. They ended up replacing a control board and that seems to have fixed it. Operating almost constantly to see if I can make it break again but so far so good.

Why only 4/5? They took 3 weeks for repair and probably that isn't bad but I thought that 2 weeks should have been adequate (this does not count shipping which is not Icom's responsibility). Overall though I have to say they did a good job.

Great Turnaround Time Owned: more than 12 months.
My ICOM 706MkIIG in a mobile installation had its USB receive goes framus. All troubleshooting efforts brought nil. E-mailed ICOM, they said send it in! Still under warranty so off it went. Excluding the week-plus it took the shipper to get it to ICOM (my fault, didn't realize the 'home delivery' option was via turtle)only took about two weeks; repair slip showed "no charge" and description was "CPU reset and alignment." Quite happy with the service, though I still don't know what 'CPU alignment' means...

Can't complain about Icom! Time Owned: more than 12 months.
My IC-703plus has been back to Icom for service twice. Once under warranty and once out of warranty. I was not charged for the repairs either time. Turn around time was about four weeks each time. My IC-746 was back one time for out of warranty service and I was not charged for that. I also sent two of my IC-2720H radios back for updates and was not charged for them either. I feel that although they have some issues with their radios, Icom is trying to take care of their customers.

Not pleased! Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I bought an Icom 703+ that had a CPU problem. It spent seven weeks in the Icom service department awaiting parts from Japan. They finally decided to replace the radio. When the replacement arrived it was the wrong model! Instead of the Plus HF/6M version they sent the HF only version. The reps on the phone were always pleasant but service is someting they are unable to deliver.

OK for me Time Owned: 3 to 6 months.
Had an IC-2720 under warranty, display looked like hieroglyphics until the unit warmed up. Took to April Tailgate and gave back to Rick at Radcom in Texas. He sent it in to Icom and it was shipped back to me within 3 weeks, I didn't even pay any shipping either way. Receipt said they did other diagnostics too, they probably just replaced control head. Works great now except for that dang intermod that every unit has!

Fast Good Service Time Owned: more than 12 months.
Had an original ICOM 706 that had no FM transmit.
Emailed Icom service and got a quick reply to send the unit in.

They had it less than 7 working days and returned if properly repaired for minimal cost.

Don't Ask for Details!? Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I had a 746 repaired twice for different reasons 6 months apart. The first time I sent it directly to ICOM Bellevue. 5 weeks later, and at what I thought was a reasonable price, the rig was returned with full details of repair such as labor, parts, etc. A little slow but otherwise good service.

The second time, the rig was forwarded by an ICOM authorized station for repair as they said it would be cheaper for ICOM to do the repair. At 4 + weeks I called ICOM and was told the rig had just been shipped back to the authorized repair station, which was fine. I ask ICOM was had been wrong with the radio and they would not tell me what my bill was with them or what was wrong with the radio.

I got the radio the next day, paid the bill, and there was no paperwork with the radio whatsoever indicating what had been done in the way of parts replaced, labor or anything else as the time before had been.

I called ICOM again and ask where the documentation of the repair. They would not discuss the matter with me. Any manufacturer that cares this little for their customers does not need me as a customer. I have since sold all my ICOM gear. I don’t write checks for unknown repairs to anyone. I did not have much choice in this case if I wanted the radio back from the authorized repair station

Don’t get me wrong. I thought the rig was great, when it was not in the shop. It was the attitude of the HF repair section that created my attitude. I had 3 other ICOM rigs with no problems whatsoever.
