Still a good transverter choice today Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I've had this transverter for a long while, and used it with an ICOM 745 for many years with no problem. I stashed it away for a while and now use it with my SDR on 2 and 70cm, where it does a perfectly fine job. I really like the hot front end on UHF and the all in one construction. Just plugged it in and connect the antennas and I was in business with the Flexradio 6400M. Easy as pie and nice and neat with no external PS needed. I have all three modules but don't need the 6M module of course with the Flex, but I wondered if that space could be used for a new band like 222. It would seem easy to do actually as I have a spare 2M module.

Awesome Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I have owned the FTV-901R for three years. It has all three modules in it, and it does what it should, as it should.
Depending on what 28 mhz IF rig you use - it will work with the FT-101E, FT-101Z, FT-301, FT-901, and the FT-902 series radios. I would also think it would work with any 100 mW or less rig, as long as there is a transverter out port or it is configured for separate TX/RX ports.
I use it with an FT-101E and I can tell you this out performs any all band-all mode rig you can find. I have 114 grids on 144 mhz, and about 75 countries on 50mhz. The signals pop right out of the noise floor. Side rejection is nice, and I can hardly tell when the neighbor is on two miles away with a 400 watt TE.
You will only miss extras like IF shift, ease of band change, and headaches listening to a noisy rig.
If you have a chance to buy one, do it. If it has all three modules in it, great, if it does not, you may have a hard time finding some. They are getting rare.
Output is around 7-10 watts on all bands and it is AC powered.

Great Stuff Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I have owned the FTV 901R for 8 years when i got my FT902dm and both work very well together. Luckily I managed to purchase mine with all 3 modules for 2m/6m/70cm fitted as these can be hard to get hold of.

With 10 watts output on all three bands on all modes I have had great contacts and reports, facility to use repeaters with split controls (there is one mod to be made to use 1.6mhz shift on 70cm which is just a case of swapping round 2 wires!) if you use 6m repeaters then you will need to install a ctcss circuit which can easily be done. Very easy to use, reliable and looks great with the FT 902 line up or FT 101zd. Iam intending to use mine with the FT 102(again a couple of wires have to be moved round)

When I purchased mine it needed re-alignment slightly due to age, but if you have to yourself be careful as some parts of the alignment instructions in the manual are incorrect.

One nice thing is that the transverter allows you to connect up your HF aerial so that when you turn the unit off you can play hf and when you switch the transverter on you can operate on VHF/UHF,simple as that, nice and easy and saves you the trouble of dis-connecting and re-connecting.

Excellent with FT-902DM Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
Hi,

Worked EA7 from G with Spradic-E (over 1000 miles), with 10W, copper pipe J-Pole in attic using FT-902DM and FTV-901R.
signals 59/59. If you own a 901/902 I would recommend.
