    An effective learning tool Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
    I purchased the Extra course on Jan. 11 as it had been recommended by one of the VE's where I planned to test. I dedicated 2 hours daily to studying. It works wonderfully as long as you set a goal and put a solid effort into learning the material.

    This in conjunction with the ARRL license manual got me to a point where I passed Element 4 on Feb. 6.

    I wanted to get my Amateur Extra, and so last September I bought the ARRL Extra Class License Manual (which is a great reference) and the questions guide. I was a radio tech in the Marines, so I understand electronic and radio theory. However, I would read read read the text from the manual, but I wasn't real focused and it didn't seem to stick. I didn't feel I was getting anywhere or making much progress.

    Our local ham radio club president used HTO to get his General Lic. And he raved about it. So I signed up in late December 2020, and scheduled the exam in February 2021. That way I would have a goal and a deadline.

    Before I started studying I first took an online test to see where I was at. Got 60%. Failing, but hey I only had to get a few more right and I could pass. But I didn't want to just pass, I wanted to learn the material and get close to 100% as possible.

    I followed the recommendations from Ham Test Online, which is to put in at least an hour a day of serious study. HTO gives you the material to learn then asks the exam question. Material to learn, then questions. Over and over again.

    So I wasn't just memorizing the answers. I was actually learning!

    I would study in the morning for an hour and do a shorter study session in the evening. The algorithm kept track of my responses, and the more I got right the less I saw of those questions. The weak areas would come back, and I'd review and study those again and again.

    At times I wondered what was wrong with me because for certain subjects I just didn't seem to remember the study material. But I didn't give up. I also shared where I was at with a local fellow ham - and it became a bit of competition - which is good to keeping focus.

    I focused on putting in the time, studying and learning the material, not taking many practice exams, and not memorizing answers.

    Took the Extra Class upgrade license test in February and passed with 94%. Wahoo! I would have done better, but I went back and changed two of my answers.

    Does it cost money? Yep.

    Was it worth it? For me, yep. It saved me time so I didn't spin my wheels, but instead I was able to focus on learning the material on the exam.

    I believe that if you put in serious study time, and be consistent, Ham Test Online should work for you also to get where you want to go.

    Well organized. Plenty of study material. Sequence of topics helped develop overall understanding. I spent about 45 minutes a day for about 6 weeks. Passed with 98%. About 30% of the material seems like a foreign language, but the course allows you to repeat, pause, study as much or little as needed.

    HamTestOnline makes learning quick and easy! It is an excellent program that just seems to know what questions need to be worked on more. Before you know it you will have learned everything much faster than reading the books.
    I would recommend HamTestOnline to anyone wishing to get into ham radio. I am taking the Extra exam next month with no worries.

    I highly recommend HamTestOnline to anyone going for their ticket. I passed Technician, General, and Extra all within a few weeks of each other, with excellent scores, thanks to HamTestOnline. The interface is easy to use and the computer-aided-instruction really helps you to improve in the weak areas and reinforces the strong area. Sometimes a little spooky that it knows which questions to ask next . . . I also used all three ARRL License manuals as a supplement and in conjunction with HamTestOnline , but HamTestOnline would have been more than sufficient without any other materials. Once you hit 85% or more on HamTestOnline, go for it!!

    Passed Extra first time! Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
    I believe it was well worth the price ($34.95 for Extra, Tech and General are less expensive.) I used another method for my Tech and General (aced the General!) but felt I needed more than just "memorizing the answers" for Extra. Was planning on taking about 4 weeks to prepare but after about ten days I had seen everything at least once and found out about an online test I could take the next day. Spent the final day cramming, wasn't sure I was ready, felt like I was losing traction towards the end, and was real nervous when taking the test. the instructions to properly take the test online were as nerve-racking as the test itself (the VEs at PARC were great though!) I felt like I blew the first 10 questions or so, but by the time It was over, I passed easily enough (84%, but I'll take it!) Highly recommended!

    On 1/23/2021, I passed my Extra exam with a score of 100%. HamTestOnline helped make that possible. I can't add much to what other reviewers have said. Just go to the HamTestOnline site, read about it, and give it a try.

    Excellent Review Course - especially for Dummies like me! Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
    I just passed the General exam thanks to an excellent learning experience with HamTestOnline. As an online educator, the review is set up extremely well and follows a curriculum that reinforces the learning. You can memorize the questions and answers, but at the General level, you probably should learn a little about the tech stuff. I'm one of those people that likes to take advantage of a great tech setting up the equipment - As far electronics goes, I have to look up how to spell the word! The information was broken down to learnable installments and in terms that didn't have me scratching my head with every new category. This interactive course beats a book hands down!!!     UPDATE~ OK, I'm not technically inclined so The Extra was killing me. I was ready to give up after getting barely passing scores on my reviews and I just wasn't understanding it!!! I wrote to John W1A1 and he responded personally with learning tips and words of encouragement. Very cool. It was enough to keep me going and pass Extra back in November. Thanks HamTestOnline, John and the crew. It's just not a money making enterprise but a personal learning experience with people wanting you to do well. The learning continues now that I've got the basics. THIS IS THE WAY TO DO IT!!! Thanks again!

    Excellent investment - passed my Extra last night! Time Owned: 3 to 6 months.
    Just wanted to take a minute and share my experience with Ham Test Online. I just tested last night for Amateur Extra, and I passed! I used the software to not only prepare for the test, but to study and learn the concepts and ideas behind test questions. To me, the software was invaluable in helping to learn- not just the test questions, but the theory behind the questions and what it means. One of the things I liked about using the software is that there were often “memory aids” or hints (words to look for, etc) that you came across as you worked through the process of learning. Another aid was the amazing amount of information linked for each of the topics so you could really understand the concepts, very helpful. I’ll admit, I didn’t “ace” the test, but I know that I really learned the information I needed to know well, and there are new areas I’m now interested in that I hadn’t been before. (satellites & digital modes, specifically). Long story short, this was a very worthwhile investment for me and really helped in accomplishing my upgrade to Extra. And finally, I want to add a big shout-out to the Austin, MN ARC- major kudos & thanks to those folks for making the exam possible! Thank you all very much!

    Very good well designed and executed program. Easy to use and has automatic reinforcement for items you have trouble with. Answers are explained so you learn not just memorize. Licensed 57 years and decided to update my Advanced license to Extra. Brought me up to speed in a short time! A+
