Great Antenna! Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
The antenna is very well made. The 5 inch model has a 1.5 inch lower mast with a gold plated stainless steel quick disconnect. The coil is inclosed in Lexan. The 5 inch antenna comes with top hat cap, giant ouick disconnect for the base, and a whip quick disconnect. All workmanship is first class. This is an antenna that should last for years. The most important part of the review is HOW WELL DOES IT TALK and HEAR! The 5 inch antenna does both very well. The receive is strong with low noise and the xmit is much better than my screw-driver antenna. I could probably get by without an amp but with 12ga copper in the 5 inch coil why not apply a little more RF power. My antenna was tested with 500 watts (Key Down)and had no problem at all. I like the matching shunt coil kit that was included. I used a small switch on the shunt coil to switch between a 50 ohm, 1:1 match on 80 meters and a 50 ohm, 1:1 match on 40 meters and above. When you see the price, remember you get what you pay for! Also Charlie is a great guy to do business with. His customer support is wonderful. I give Charlie a 6 out of a possible 5. If you want to be loud on HF then you need a HiQ Antenna. I suggest the 5 inch model. I wish I had known about the 5inch HiQ antenna 3 or 4 mobile antennas back, I could have saved some money. One of Charlie's antennas was cheaper than the other ones I tried and was not happy with. My antenna is 7 feet in length mounted about 3.5 feet above ground on a Xterra.

Charlie's done it again! Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I received this antenna this past week after having used the 4-160 manual tune (review on that page) antenna. That model was far superior to the screwdriver I had been using. This antenna is something to experience. With a 5" coil made from 12 guage wire at 7 turns per inch, I have received reports from people with whom I regularly talk of being stronger by up to 10db and more than with the other model. One person wanted to buy my antenna, my rig, and my entire car! The difference in receving is just as noticable. Signals average 7 to 10db higher on the meter especially on 75 and 40 meters where a coil of this size makes more of a difference. Like so many others who have reviewed HI-Q products, disbelief is expressed that I am indeed operating mobile. Add to that the quality that goes into every antenna Charlie makes. The sealed coil assembly keeps out road grime and is lifetime guaranteed. And Charlie is great at answering questions and providing hints.

If you are seriously into HF mobile operating, especially on 75 and 40 meters, you might want to check this antenna out.
