Excellent for its time Time Owned: more than 12 months.
Well, I feel I must write a review. I have had mine now for a few years and every time I think i want to sell it, I put it back on the air. Mine is the high power version and has essentially worked since I got it. I love to repair old radios and get them back on the air but this one just needed one component replacement and some basic alignment and it works as well as the day it was built. Well done Herb! de Frank KG9H

No frills Time Owned: more than 12 months.
An absolute bare bones no-frills radio. Probably 4/5 in its time, today only a 3.

Receiver was not bad, and internal noise was low. Nevertheless there's a certain harshness about the audio which was fatiguing. It was also deaf on 10m.

CW was an afterthought. Sounds OK on air, but sidetone was clicky and required you to wear headphones or turn down AF gain. No CW filter either.

Metering extremely rudimentary - no s-meter and should have used meter movement to measure SWR and RF out.

Small amount of drift. Also dial markings did not allow repeatable frequency setting, exacerbated by lack of crystal calibrator.

Easily moddable. My mods include a CW audio filter, RF preamp and an xtal calibrator (with 3.500 MHz xtal to identify band edge). With these mods it's now much better and a pleasure to use on CW (if you're not fussy about silent QSK).

Overall, if you want a good starter or second rig for casual chatting on 80/40/20m and it's supercheap, I say buy it! If the price is not very low, I'd pay a little more for something better.
