Description:
MFJs exclusive IntelliTuner™, Adaptive Search™ and InstantRecall™ algorithms give you ultra fast automatic tuning with over 2000 non-volatile revolving memories. You get a highly efficient L-network, wide 6-1600 ohm matching at full 300 Watts SSB/150 Watts CW, 1.8-30 MHz coverage, Cross-Needle and digital meters, aural SWR meter, backlit LCD display, remote control port, radio interface, heavy-duty 16 amp/1000 volt relays and more.

It learns while you're having fun
As you’re ragchewing, contesting or DXing, your MFJ-993 is learning! When you transmit, the MFJ-993 automatically tunes for minimum SWR and remembers your frequency and tuner settings. The next time you operate on that frequency and antenna, these tuner settings are instantly restored and you’re ready to operate in milliseconds!

Each of two antennas can learn and remember over a thousand frequencies and tuner settings. They are safely stored in non- volatile revolving memory.

Highly Intelligent ultra fast tuning
MFJs InstantRecall™ first checks its memory to see if you have operated this frequency before. If so, tuning is instantaneous and you re ready to operate. If not, MFJ's IntelliTuner™ algorithm - - based on MFJ's famous SWR Analyzer technology - - kicks in. It measures the complex impedance of your antenna. Next, it calculates the components it needs and instantly snaps them in. Then, it fine tunes to minimize SWR -- you’re ready to operate. It’s all done in a fraction of a second.

When the impedance is within its measurement range, the MFJ-993 is the fastest automatic antenna tuner in the world.

If it can’t accurately determine impedance, MFJ’s AdaptiveSearch™ algorithm goes into action. Frequency is measured and relevant components values are determined. Only those values are searched for ultra-fast tuning.

For even faster searches, you can set the target SWR to 2 (settable 1.0-2.0). You can manually tune when you can’t transmit (for listening out of ham bands).

Cross Needle and Digital SWR/Watt Meters
Lighted Cross-Needle and digital meters lets you accurately read SWR, forward and reflected power at a glance. An aural SWR meter lets you hear the tuned SWR when you can’t see or read the meters. Turn on a highly visible, instant response SWR LCD bargraph when you need it.

Backlit LCD Display
An easy-to-read backlit LCD displays SWR, forward/reflected power, frequency, antenna 1/2, L/C tuner values, on/off indicators and other information.

Remote Control Port
Plug in the MFJ-990RC remote control and put your tuner at your antenna or elsewhere and control it remotely. The MFJ-993 supports radio tuner interfaces such as the ICOM 706 series. Interface cables are available.

The MFJ-993 is a compact 10Wx2¾ Hx9D inches. Use 12 –15 VDC/1 amp or 110 VAC with MFJ-1316.

Tune any Antenna
You can tune any antenna — dipoles, verticals, beams, phased arrays, inverted vees, quads, random wires, mobile antennas, compact limited space antennas – practically any antenna. A 4:1 true current balun lets you tune any balanced antenna - - horizontal loops, vertical loops, multi-band doublets, quads, folded dipoles, Zepps.

Great Product from M.F.J. Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
Excellent product, works as advertised and even better. Lighting fast memory tunning < 1 sec on my G5-RV. Tunes several other antennas I have even faster. Displayed information is very helpful.

I really can't say anthing more than the other two reviewers didn't cover. Provided this thing is as reliable in terms of no factory defects that show up during it's warrenty period I will be very satisfied.

Buy this one if you need a great auto tuner.

works great Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
owned for limited time BUT works as should, 160 LOOP,BTC for 40 meters via 450 ohm,OCF, ALL load very quickly, IT REMEMBERS the tuning, NO PROBLEMS HERE with tuner.Have FUN, GREAT OPERATING AID, past icing here in the MID-WEST DOES NOT STOP the 993

OUTSTANDING Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I received my tuner on the 23rd of December and have put it through its paces. Using a G5RV which displayes a wide range of impedances from 160 to 10 meters and a FT-100D running 15 watts of dead carrier in the AM mode and 100+ on SSB and CW.

I found out that the tuner can do a lot more then the MFJ ads say. It will automatically change its configuration from high to low impedance. It has a self test mode that will check out all circuits. You can calibrate the forward and reflected power meters without applying any power to the tuner and if it fails the self test mode it will tell you what is not working.

I checked it out on all bands and it was able to flatten the swr from band edge to band edge. When it is trying to find the right combination it sounds like a machine gun and you want to turn something off to stop it but this is normal.

I then started at the bottom of 160 meters and put into memory all the combinations to flatten the system up to the top of the band. I did this all the way up to 10 meters. Now no more machine gun noise. When you change frequency enough or change bands that makes the swr increase above the threshold it will remember the combination when you apply in my case 15 watts and all you hear is one click and it is ready to go. It is so fast you don't even know you have a tuner in line.

The only way one could screw up this tuning mode is by setting the AUTO Tune Menu to low. With 15 watts the swr will show 1:1 but it you increase the power to 100 watts the swr will increases and if you have the threshold set low it will want to go into the search mode so it is best to set the threshold to 1.5 the default is 1.

Now I decided to have some fun so I connected a lead to my rain spout which was 22 feet long with 8 feet of down spout. I connected the feed line 7 feet from the end which made it easier to bring into the shack. Guess you would call this antenna an off center feed rain spout. I loaded it up on 17 meters and called CQ. Got a 9+5 over in VA 57 in NC 58 in MI and 57 in MO. Changed bands to 20 meters and worked Europe with 10 watts.

I don't see how you could go wrong with a tuner that has enough memory to cover all the ham bands with 2 antennas and do it with one click. No more of this search up and down waiting for a match. MFJ has come up with a winner on this one and the price is right!
