Radio good, menu not Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I have mine programmed with Chirp. As long as I use the pre-programmed memories, everything works great. But the menu is confusing. I finally bought a 7800 quick guide to keep in the truck to help me see what all the menu abbreviations mean. My old Kenwood TM-V7 was easy to set power, tone, splits & offsets, but the blue screen quit like most other of that model did. Tried Yaesu instead & not overly thrilled but it’s functional.

no complaints Time Owned: more than 12 months.
Originally purchased to use in the shack, but a change in vehicles made it necessary to move it to my daily driver (remote mounting).
It's been in use daily with no complaints. In fact I like it so much I bought the FT-8800 to replace it in the shack.

excellent Time Owned: more than 12 months.
the ft7800 is a user friendly, solid radio. I have had mine on use 24hrs a day on a irlp node with no issues.. the radio does not get hot,and just runs away.. I did use it for a while on fm to the local repeaters. works flawlessly.. you cannot go wrong with one on the used market ..

Great rig Time Owned: more than 12 months.
1st radio when I got my ticket over a decade ago. I currently use it at home as my 2m/440cm base, I had it in my buggy for years and only reason it is not out there is I have a newer radio that has more punch and is digital friendly.

Not one issue ever with this rig.

Yes, it has menus, but they are straight forward and not that hard to navigate if you actually read the instructions, something that most hams, including myself are not crazy about.

I strongly recommend picking up a used one if you can get it as a reasonable price and if the screws don't show signs of wear

Really good! Go-Box Radio Rig! Time Owned: 6 to 12 months.
I Used this radio in my pelicon case go-box. This radio is super rugged and has almost everything you could ever want. It has Banks, Hot Channel Buttons, Removable Head, Easy Menus and programming! I find this to be one of the best radios on the market! My friend gave this to me as my first base radio. It sure will last a lifetime! Thanks Yaesu for such a great product!

Beautiful little rig Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I have had mine for several years. It really is a great little rig. It is very robustly made and seems to be able to cope with quite a lot of "punishment" without complaint. Receive sensitivity is excellent and transmit audio quality likewise. It is also a good performer as an aircraft band receiver with smooth AM receive audio quality. The memory and menu system take a bit of navigating but it is relatively easy to set up some favourite frequencies with repeater offsets/CTCSS tones as required and store them to memory. I really like the direct frequency input via the DTMF mic. The little internal speaker gives clear audio but it really is worth connecting an external speaker to hear the excellent receive audio possible. I reckon this is would be very good solid vhf/uhf rig as a second hand purchase.

good rugged radio Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I own an FT-7800 and it is a tough base station radio and I bought it a month after I got my ham ticket

Good value 2M-440 rig Time Owned: 6 to 12 months.
We just purchased a new Ford Transit 250 company van. One of the first things I did was install a FT-2800R (we've had it for awhile as a base) and an antenna for emergency communications. Programming is relatively straight forward, performance through our two main local repeaters is excellent with good audio reports. I'm using mainly low power, medium for simplex. Own a FT-8800 and FT-2900 also. Wouldn't hesitate recommending this unit as a good bang for the buck 2M-440 rig. JB

Superior Time Owned: more than 12 months.
Outperforms the single band rigs with Power modules in both sensitivity, inter mod and efficiency (Converting DC power into RF power). Very similar to the FT-7900 but I prefer this design.

Not sure it is hard to set memories Time Owned: more than 12 months.
Having owned most mobile and hand held Yaesu including HF, I find them very easy to program. If one follows the manual, after a few memories are input it becomes very easy to load new frequencies into memory. As with any ham radio, one has to set repeater off set [generally automatic so only have to worry about freq. around 147.000]; any tones and power. If you have to change a frequency just do the same and select the memory number you want the new frequency to overwrite. I can change a memory in less than 10 secs.. I have problems with Icom, Kenwood and the cheap Chinese radios when programming but that is because I do not do them enough. One can always use a radio programming software, but one should frequently load new frequencies into memory to stay familiar with how the particular radio programs in the field. I find Yaesu radios really easy to program
