Review Summary For : MixW RigExpert USB Transceiver Interface (Modem)
Reviews: 45MSRP: 199
Description:
MixW RigExpert is a device for operating CW and digital modes using a personal computer with USB port. It provides transceiver audio interface, CAT interface for various transceiver models, FSK output, PTT and CW keyer functions, and built-in electronic CW keyer. By using a transceiver cable, MixW RigExpert is connected to the transceiver audio in/out, FSK, CW and CAT sockets. No additional interface boxes needed to connect the device to a transceiver. It frees up the computer sound card and COM port previously used to operate digital modes.

Ideal interface with MixW Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I purchased my RigExpert from Canada, and had the same problem with wiring issues with the PTT line. The PTT plug for my TS-2000 was wired wrong. Once this was repaired, the unit works very well with my Dell computer and TS-2000. I find that the sound card display seems much sharper on MFSK. I used the RigExpert in the last RTTY contest using FSK on my radio with excellent results. The latest release of MixW has solved the audio adjust problems. The RigExpert now allows me to use MixW on all modes, while still having my sound card free for audio use like Skype which I am using for a remote station. I feel that MixW and the RigExpert will continue to improve as MixW has over the many years I have used it. A little expensive, but still I feel it is a good additon to my ham station. Great job Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
Two days ago received RigExpert and today tested it with my FT1000MK5.
Work great - no slant adjust need, no problem with CAT-PTT-CW. Quality sound the same as my USB Audigy 2NX. Little problem with small noise when plastic case RigExpert near FT100MK5

Excellent - Easy to Use Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
Received my RigExpert last week, and got it up and running this past weekend with MixW and my Ten-tec Orion.

Works extremely well, and really simplifies the whole PC to radio interface issue with one USB cable from the RigExpert to the PC. This was important to me, since the laptop I use in the radio room isn't dedicated to that purpose. Set the PC on the table, plug in the USB cable and it's ready to run.

RigExpert can only be used with MixW and DigiPan currently, but perhaps that will change ....

Works well with my FT-897 Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I purchased the RE primarily to use with my Yaesu FT-897. I installed the Virtual Drivers supplied on the included CD following the instructions. I then Set up MIxW per the included instructions. Com 13 would not work as shown in the illustration so I just started with a lower com # until I found one that worked. For me Com 5 or 6 work fine. I ordered the FT-897 prewired cable. I opened the DB25 cover and the wiring was neat, each of the 16 wired pins had a little plastic sleeve for pin insulation. The components seem of good quality. There was a small error in that at the key plug the wire was soldered to the center lug of the plug instead of the tip lug. Just unscrew the black plug cover and solder a short piece of wire to the tip lug. Of course one could buy a mono plug. Its a 5 minute or less job. I traced out the wiring to all the pins per the schematic for the 897 and it was perfect. I find the RE works very well indeed. Print out the instructions on the included disk for reference. They are OK but could be easier to understand for those who are used to more detailed instructions for every step. I am using the RE with an old laptop Window '98 and a new desktop with XP. The audio input can easily be set by opening the RE sound card setting and adjusting the volume control sliders while watching the spectrum on MIXW to find the level you like. For me it is an excellent addition to my shack. A better installation guide could be made and information supplied should you have a problem with the unit itelf.

Super Product Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
Best product have purchased in a long time for ham radio. Product was plug and play and works much better for me than using a sound card. You do not have to calibrate as slant for sstv and msfk is perfect, tr/rv is right on freq. My power setting and IMD is better than when using the sound card..Has to be used with MIXW or Digipan Software which are both the worlds best.
