| Ditto, a 5 for me too! |
Time Owned: 0 to 3 months. |
| I also owned a Yaesu FT-950 and sold it for something a little simpler that didn't take up so much space! I believe this radio has everything you need and nothing you don't! Great receiver and very nice build quality!! Nice work as usual Kenwood!! |

| much better receive than ft-950 |
Time Owned: 0 to 3 months. |
Having purchased a yaesu ft-950 not long ago,it wasn't long before it was back at the shop and exchanged for ts-480.It was too big and an impulse buy.Anyway,i opted for the ts-480 not really having done any research but wanted the portability and it suited me fine.
Anyway to my amazement when i turned it on the receive was much quieter, noise floor was lower and just had a nice sound to it,really shines when put through my kenwood sp-230 speaker!
Just got my heil proset4,but got to sort out settings yet.hope it sounds nice, sure it will though.
Nice clear display, good audio on receive, well made and quiet fan.
Go get one! |

| It´s GREAT.. |
Time Owned: more than 12 months. |
What can I say, my first HF rig is a TS-440 SAT, great Auto Tuner... even the wire of the fence in my farm works like an antenna with that Auto tuner.. The TS-480 have a electronic Auto tuner, so I can tune the wire of the fence from the farm, but with an antenna with a SWR of 3,5 works great... I can use the software for control the HF, can use the Ham Radio Deluxe, PSK31, etc...
and now I´m trying to use the internet connection so I can use HF from another place with out been in front of the HF....
Like a mobile, it´s great, I use a hustler HF antennas, nothing to say...
TS- 440 SAT and TS-480 SAT are great.. I was insecure when I bought the TS-480, but now I recommend that HF..

| Simply the best! |

NB4M's review is very interesting, very!
-->> AGC pumping, front end overload, adjacent signal overload, very noisy receiver, DSP sounds like it's under water, additional filtering poor, solder in filters in 2009, yes to all the above.
I've owned/own several TS-480SAT and had/have NO such problem. Also on a Dipol (40/80M) and LogPer (10 - 20M). So I do not iunderstand this comment. I suggest that 1. the TRX ist defective or 2. the operateur does not understand, how to handle this TRX! It's the best TRX for the money. It's one of the best small TRX. It's one of the better TRX. Better then some high end TRX (FT-2000 etc). Its typical KENWOOD. |

| THE Best Mobile I've ever had |
Time Owned: more than 12 months. |
Isn't it obvious that this radio was designed to be a mobile rig? If for no other reason, the physical design should prove that. I'm not trying to excuse any (un-observed by me) supposed short-comings. For mobile operation, it is in a class by itself. Lets look at what performance parameters it takes to make a good mobile radio. (I know some people operate CW mobile, but I never have, or will.) Other than the usual list of features you'd expect in a modern rig, first in my opinion is ease of operation. After a few minutes of a very short learning curve, you can use this radio without taking your eyes off the road. Next, for mobile, is the noise blanker. While I have to admit, my little Dakota pick-up is the quietest vehicle for ignition noise I think I've ever owned, what's left is completely removed by the '480's blanker. Personally, I have never experienced any problems with the radio that could be traced to a "weak" front end design, suggestting any lack of overload capability. That said, I have never used it very much while connected to a full size antenna at home under severe contest/DX conditions. I have however, done some VHF contesting on six meters with a little portable beam and it did fine.
I've had this one and another TS-480 in a Subaru Outback for over two years, so I DO have some long term experience with it. Also, I've had a lot of different mobile rigs in 40 years of HF mobiliing and the TS-480 is the best I've found. |

AGC pumping, front end overload, adjacent signal overload, very noisy receiver, DSP sounds like it's under water, additional filtering poor, solder in filters in 2009, yes to all the above.
Summary:
Sideband rig, maybe.
DX rig, no.
Contest rig, no.
CW rig, no.
The TS480 receiver is not even in the ball park with the TS950, as Kenwood states.
All rigs transmit, but only few receive. |

| The Best small rig |
Time Owned: 3 to 6 months. |
I been using the TS 480 for 3 months only on cw and I can say it is the best small rig that I ever owned, I owned 706 MKII, TS 50 and Yaesu FT 857 but the TS 480 is the best look at the QST tests! I really like the RX is superb if you install the IF XTAL filter for CW or SSB is even better in selectivity because it combines the xtal filter along the af dsp. The qsk is very good and quiet, and the radio stay always cool wIth a effective cooling system and also the ATU and the antenna switch is a plus.
Another feature that I like is the remote control via internet, I usually work abroad with internet it's easy to operate everywhere !
Good DX thanks for reading 73 de IZ0PXT |

| and the MB-480 Portable Bracket |
Time Owned: 6 to 12 months. |
| Makes the 480 even better, now that I can grab the handle and go. A 100 watt handheld it isn't. A great radio for SSB and CW it is. I played with the RF and AF combo and learned the proper use of the NR button. Now this radio is a keeper. |

| Great Radio. My face plate is hooked to body. |
Time Owned: more than 12 months. |
| Let's see now the receiver is great, considering its price class. The transmitter is great considering, its price class. It is probably the most intuitive small rig on the market today - absolutely perfect for us "menu haters". And it's more portable than a K2 or K3 when used in conjunction with the MB 480 bracket, which makes the whole radio ONE PIECE. See my photos in the Yahoo Group for the TS 480. I just pick the radio up by the handle, put it in my Pelican case and off we go. Let me know if you have any questions about connecting the face plate to the body with the MB 480.
