WOW!! Never Thought I would use an external speaker! Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
Mine is a Fostex 6301NB Powered Active Monitor.

When I first plugged this into my radio, I was a bit put off at the sound that came out of it when no one was transmitting on the band, ie, the atmospheric noise. With a bit of use, I realized this was due to it being a MUCH finer speaker than I had heard in the past.

People on the bands sound VERY clear and natural. It seems to capture the full (or most of) the audio range of the human ear. Voices sound natural, as if they are almost in the room with you.

I run an SDR (Apache-Labs Anan 7000DLE Mk2), sometimes there can be problems with SDR's and RFI (radio frequency interference). I have experienced no such problems with this speaker.

Though a bit pricy, I would not hesitate in ANY way to recommend this speaker.

It will be connected to ANY ham radio I use in the future.

Frequency response is 70 - 15000 Hz.

I usually do not review items until I've owned them a year or so, I will update this review if necessary.

Excellent power speakers Time Owned: 3 to 6 months.
I recently purchased a pair to use with a Presonus 16R digital rack mixer. Multiple transceivers, desktop PC, and external audio devices now route to the digital mixer with powered audio from the Fostex 6301. The mixer is controlled from the desktop PC or Presonus iPad app.

Presently, four variations of the 6301 are being manufactured by Fostex. Mine use balanced, transformer inputs to mitigate RFI.

Sound is very good and at least as good as Bose, Altec, and JBL powered speakers I've tried. The speakers are very heavy for their size and are completely sealed in all-metal construction.

To get the speakers where I really wanted them - on the LCD monitors, I made a decision to mount the speakers to the top LCD monitor frames using the best construction adhesive made. Yes, the LCD monitors will be destroyed when removing the speakers one day -- and no doubt there will be some case damage to the speakers but I need them to absolutely stay without any chance of falling onto the desktop or anything else in the way. Speaker mounts, riser pipes and the like just weren't acceptable mounting possibilities.

Good sound Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I have two. One on the shack TV and another on the rig. Sound is great. Best part, no RFI into it. It is heavy, metal enclosure. Also has a balanced in and unbalanced in. Also provides for another speaker if so desired. Has built in linear supply with line cord to the outlet. Uses XLR for balanced and TRS for unbalanced all good quality connectors. I don't turn them off. 10 watt amp.

Outstanding! A Must Have Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
If you are like me, you have purchased and tried a multitude of speakers, some matching the equipment you purchased as well as other commercial brands costing tons more $$$ all in search of a speaker that was "worthy". Based upon reviews in this forum and a specific recommendation from Ken, K1GUY who I speak to on a regular basis and who owns a pair of these, I bit the bullet once again and, last week, purchased one NEW open-box 6301B from an eBay seller for $159. I wanted to approach this experiment slowly to insure that I agreed with Ken and all of the reviewers to date prior to spending another $159 on a second speaker. So I put one speaker in line and ... WOW!... what a discovery! Full rich sound like I have not heard before from my Kenwood TS-870S. The seller had one other speaker left so I contacted him immediately and bought the matching second speaker, put that in-line this AM and was very pleased with the fidelity increase. Simply outstanding. A real quality studio-grade product that, in my mind, sets a new standard in rich sound in our ham radio hobby. I know a little bit about audio and believe me when I tell you NOT to waste any more of your hard-earned $$$ on junk. Buy yourself a pair of these beauties and smile the rest of the time you have left on the planet!

Big Sound for K3 Time Owned: 3 to 6 months.
I was looking for a pair of powered speakers to add to my K3 that were shielded, closely matched the look of the K-Line and had good sound for BCB SWLing. The 6301B fits the bill quite well; they are almost the same height as the K3 when you mount them sideways using the optional brackets. There is a picture of them with the K3 on my QRZ page (KW8U).

They are not cheap, but neither is the radio and I'm sure I'll have them for a long time.

Perfect size, perfect sound Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
Was looking for a speaker, as my "matching" speaker was not delivering for my hearing and I was reduced to headphones. Checked the old reviews here and on internet, all raving about this small ( 7.5 x 4.7 x 4.7 inch) powered amplified desktop speaker. I have retired my headphones as the speaker delivers a big beautiful clear full audio. Very impressive from this 8 lb solidly built speaker. If you don't have room for one of those large size speakers, this could be your answer (paid $179 from B&H photo).

Fairly amazing Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I don't own one, but I was at a customer site and I heard what I thought was maybe a Bose radio playing. Sounded great. Turned out to be a 6301B connected to their sound panel for monitoring and a tech had connected a receiver to it. Wow! It's a crankin' speaker. I couldn't believe the sound out of that little box. I want Santa to bring me one!
I can see where it would be a good speaker for ham or "hi-fi" use where you want something small and powerful.

Hi Fi for SSB Time Owned: 3 to 6 months.
If you don't want to wear headphones, and you are looking for 'easy listening' then look no further.
This speaker looks great and sounds the best with all modern HF transeivers. I have tried others, but you get what you pay for. Top quality, clear and rich sounding, with self powered amplification. It's the only external speaker you will ever need.
I am happy with mine, and I am sure you will be too.
Another 'gem' to have in your shack. You will understand why they are expensive, and why Fostex speakers are studio quality.

Desktop powderkeg! Time Owned: more than 12 months.
Hi-Fi, Hamradio - whatever, this little kitten sounds like a lion.
I have been using my 6301 monitor for about everything you can imagine and it always delivers.
With its 80Hz - 13kHz freq. respons, you are able to hear absolutly everything, no mater what you are using it for.
With built in 10W (8 ohm)amp, driving the 10cm
fullrange speaker, you will have all the pounch in the sound you'll ever need.
Forget all those cheap, lightweight plastic speakers that retails from $5 - $20 and go for something that matches the rest of your shack.

You will never want another kind of speaker!
