A dependable UHF linear amplifier Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I bought my HL-63U in 1992, second hand. It's a very well made amplifier, with quality parts throughout, used quite heavily all these years without a single problem. Works with SSB / CW / FM transceivers. I get more than 50W output for 8W input. The amplifier uses the sturdy 2SC3102 UHF bipolar transistor, accepts 10W of drive but can take up to 25W of drive power, owing to the automatic input attenuator it employs. The amplifier is also protected against high antenna SWR. The MGF1302 preamp comes in handy when needed and features adjustable gain. There is an output power indicator using five green leds. The remote control jack at the back panel permits mounting of the amplifier near the antenna, where it does the best job. A very nice piece of equipment.
