Review Summary For : ICOM IC-7800
Reviews: 104MSRP: 10,000 US
Description:
The ICOM 7800 HF/6M was first introduced at the Dayton Hamvention 2003. ICOM believes it is the most advanced amateur radio ever developed. It utilizes four separate 32-bit floating point TI DSP chips, has a 7-inch wide TFT display, built in RTTY/PSK31 receive and transmit using a USB Keyboard interface, plus compact flash technology. The radio features an IP3 of +40dBm and 110db dynamic range. It features two identical, fully independent, receiver circuits. There is even a separate preamp and mixer for the 6 meter band. More information, brochures, U.S. dealers, and pricing should be available soon.
Product is in production

Incredible Transceiver! Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
Warning! Use/Ownership of this radio may tend to alter your lifestyle!

You may loose your desire to sleep! You may have difficulty with your vision. "I just can't see going to work".

All kidding aside, this is a truly spectacular transceiver. Very well done Icom!

I've only owned my rig for nearly a week, but first impressions are very good.

This rig has incredible capabilities to allow you to find new ways to filter out noise/QRM. I can hear weak signals with ease that my FT1000MP just can't quite pull out. The external VGA output is fantastic. I've connected a 20" Viewsonic flat screen monitor to my rig, which really adds to the visual impact of the 7" TFT monitor.

The manual appears to be comprehensive and well done. It is issued in a nice binder that will allow for further additions of documentation.

Well done Icom!

Fantastic HF radio - ICOM does it again Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
Second day into my radio. Let me say WOW!

Great RX capabilities, very quiet, very selective.
The audio reports with just stock settings and SM-20 microphone are complimentary.

I enjoy the dual watch, was on 20 meters and also in QSO on 10 Meters, with the push of a button.

Manual is well layed out and easy to follow.

Then I tried the PSK31 and RTTY, can't say enough, it worked very well.

I need more time, but I am sure the next review will only be better.

Oh yea, $10,599.00..........you get what you pay for.

Excellent! Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I’ve been owned this radio for 8 days now . These are my first impressions.
The receiver is superb: very quiet and with a big dynamic range (much better than my very good IC-775 dsp)
I also discovered the usefulness of the second independent receiver, I didn’t believe that it could be so interesting.
The display is impressive and easy to set up as you like using the RGB menu.
The digital voice recorder is great , and the longer you use it, the more you enjoy it.
I won't list the lot of useful and sophisticated functions and possibilities included.
It seems to me that all I need is included with the top of the performance.
Beyond its excellent technical specifications I like very much its look, its exceptional ergonomy and its ease of use.

Really the best! Today. Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
Serge UN9GC ask me to send this message.

Today IC-7800 s/n 0201015 (number 15)#02 USA version was delivered to UN9GC shack. Our
first impressions (UN9GC- owner, UN7GC and me) after unpacking 7800 was great - 756PRO2 owners need only few minutes for use all basic features, it is quite familiar. Beautiful large display, but if you will use span from 5 to 50 kHz, sweep delay is rather long, 100 kHz and widest is
OK. RTTY mode is excellent, you must see it! Some words about UN9GC shack - 7800 at the center, 756PRO2 above it, 781 at the left hand,
TS-2000 above 781, 7 MHz antenna 2 X 4 ele yagi. HF band was closed when we have been there.
Serge, UN9GC told me later about most important points - noise floor is better than in 756PRO2, no QRM from broadcast stations even if Preamp 1 or 2 was switched on. No problem to copy weak signals on 7 MHz. 781 need attenuator -10 or -20 dB for receiving same stations. 756PRO2 is OK w/o preamp, but has some crossmod effects with preamp. 7800 do not need any attenuator on 7MHz. Notch filter work as good as in 756PRO2,
no main difference except notch filter width.
Roofing filter 6 kHz on 7MHz really improve selectivity on 7MHz. Unfortunately UN7GC and me was short of time, two hours is not enough
for a lot of sophisticated functions like CF card etc. It will be investigated a bit later. Serge UN9GC will try to answer for your possible questions.

Sorry for my poor English.
