Normally, I avoid MFJ products due to quality control issues well-known to the amateur community.

A number of years ago, I made an exception and purchased the 1262, to be used for switching between a Heil Pro headset and a Heil Goldline boom mic.

The 1262 works fine, BUT, as another reviewer observed in his e-ham review, the MFJ manual states that the 1262 has a stereo headphone jack BUT, it is, in fact, a MONO jack!

had high hopes for a mic controler.i read the directions several times..hooked up all the cords ..flicked the swith......nothing..opened it up(took off the cover),,and what did i find inside..nothing..empty box..i didnt realize mfj now owns ameritron ..i just bought an amp..thats goin to the junk pile as well -811 amplifier..also i bought a morse code tuteror..another one...Mighty Fine JUnk.do yourself a favor and stay away from all their products..H.R.O. refunded my money,but i will never ever buy anything made or owned by mfj..just last week i was at H.R.O. when someone brouht in a brand new ameritron amp whitch had missing parts and wires that were never secured or attached to anything..how can a company expect to do business when they have absolutly NO Quality control????i rate this company at minus10..Paul Kenyon..(K1LLR)

I own both an MFJ-1262 and a 1260 mic switcher. I use the 1262 to toggle two mics between a Kenwood TS-480SAT and an Akinco DX-70T. The other is hooked up to my Icom IC-7000 and two mics. They work GREAT! No quality-control problems, no shorts, no stray RF! Just a very convenient vway to switch between the stock microphones and the Heil Goldines I use! Thank you, MFJ!

OK - Once I repaired it Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
Poor QC as usual with MFJ. PTT line shorted to case by cover screw. This unit is not RF proofed and does not even have a ground lug to tie it in to my station ground. The ground plane of the PC board and case are common but both are floating.
I added a ground lug to the case and discovered
that pin 5 (PTT) was shorted to the case and now also to my station ground so that when I plugged this unit in my rig went to xmit. I traced it down to the left side cover screw being too long and actuall digging into the bottom surface of the pc board. It had always been this way but until I grounded the case no isssue. I added a spacer to the cover screw and all is well now. Also the manual states it has a stereo headphone jack but it is mono. Otherwise (hahaha!) it is an OK product. I also added 2 leds near the mic inputs so i couyld easily tell which mic was selected. My Icom provides +8vdc at 30mA at the mic so it was easy to wire in with no external supply needed. This 1262 replaces my MFJ-1260 which was actaully missing parts, jumpers, and what not..it is now a "parts unit".

I purchased the MFJ-1262 mic switch recently and it works great. I am running an Icom IC-746PRO. I do not use the stock mic but am using a Heil Goldline Pro and a Heil Proset Plus. I have heard that you cannot mix mics with different wiring configurations, but both microphones are using the cables wired for the 746PRO. Using the headset I have to utilize a stereo to mono adapter or audio will only come from one of the two ear pieces. Not a big deal considering that the 746PRO isn't stereo. For my setup it's just what the doctor ordered.

Don't buy one.
Build quality is poor.
RF proofing seems to be non-existant.
I got so fed up with mine I binned it.
I should have known better. Know what I mean.

Not what I expected Time Owned: 3 to 6 months.
I have a very nice Kenwood MC-60 that I wanted to use with my Yeasu FT-847. I had built an adapter cable myself, but when I saw the MFJ-1262 I thought that was exactly what I was looking for. I ordered one and had to wait several months because MFJ was out of stock.

It finally arrived and I was immediately disspointed with the fact that, although it has two mic input jacks, the configuration jumpers only configure for one type of microphone at a time. I was envisioning being able to switch back and forth between the Kenwood and the Yeasu mics. So although I can plug in two mics, they'd have to both be Kenwood mics.

I went ahead and used it for a while, since it does have some nice features such as a headphone volume control. But I soon found that it was very prone to RFI. There's no ground stud on the box, so I would have had to modify it to tie it into my station ground. Even at that, I don't know if that would have fixed the problem.

So, with these problems, the thing went into the spare parts box. It is a nice little case, and I may gut it out, and rebuild it to my own liking someday. One last thing. When my MFJ-1262 it came with the latest catalog. Lo and behold, they have a new model, the MFJ-1263, that sounds like it does allow configuring two different brand microphones. It would have been nice if the MFJ salesperson had known about this model and told me about it.
