Still great! Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
This was cutting edge (and expensive) technology in 1981, and it still holds up very well today. It’s a step between using a teleprinter (such as an ASR32) and a modern computer. I use computers all day and this has a more “hammy” feel. It does everything you want a RTTY terminal (do we still use that word?) to do, and it is fun to use. It also receives clean CW quite well.

need for an update Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I have one of these units, and it still has the original AA cells in it. I should probably yank them before they spew all over the innards of the terminal.
This is a fun unit to play with now and then. Of course, a PC can handle all of the functions of the Drake, but not without loading software, coming up with keying interfaces, sound card interfaces, and you have to wait for the pc to boot before operating!!
The old Drake just plugs in, and works.
Now, if we could only get a NEW keyboard with a monitor connection that does all the Drake does PLUS PSK!!! I'd buy another!!!

Fun & Simple! Time Owned: 6 to 12 months.
This unit is from 20+ years ago, but it is very simple to use. Copies CW & RTTY quite well. Plug & play operation makes it perfect for the ham who doesn't want to deal with computer interfaces, etc. Bought mine for $10 used. Arguably the best $10 that I have spent!
