Good Box Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I have two of them, one for the house and one for the pickup truck. Love those IC-2200H's. Before I got these two I had an old IC-2100, which was similiar. The radio is easy to program and very reliable. Yes, it does get HOT after long transmissions on higher power, but no failure here after several years of use. It's a good dependable 2-meter radio.

Hot radio Time Owned: 3 to 6 months.
I bought this radio to use with my echolink station. The first thing I notice is the knob shafts are plastic as are most of the new radios these days...what a shame. Allso the knobs feel as though they need to be tightened or they may fall out...LOTS of wiggle in them.
The next thing I notice is this radio will get so hot it can burn you. I have always run this rig on 5 watts and it still gets so hot I cant touch it for more that a few seconds. This radio could use a fan or at least make sure the air will run over the fins real good. Easy to operate and very easy to mod if you need it.
Just remember this thing gets very hot.

Good little rig Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I have had my 2200 since 2004 or so and it has been in 2 vehicles so far. Overall, i really like the little rig. It has held up great and i have no problems with the set up or menu. For what I gave for it it is worth the $$$.

Tough little radio Time Owned: 3 to 6 months.
I did a lot of research before I purchased the 2200. This radio replaced a very old Kenwood 221A that I have had and used for over 15 years. The construction of it is solid. No cooling fan but with the cooling fins on the top of the radio, it's not a problem. Once I read the manual, programing was not a problem. You got to read the manual folks!! I have a J-pole up about 20 feet and can hit repeaters here in NW Florida 40- to 60 miles away with medium power. I also have a dual band IC 2340H. The 2200 outperforms it hands down on 2 meters. Just an outstanding radio.

BUY ONE Time Owned: 6 to 12 months.
Without a doubt the best dedicated 2mtr. Transceiver available today.Over the past 25 years I have owned a multitude or 2mtr Transceivers and overall this, along with the IC-2100 is the "Tops".The only negative is the programming. You will NOT experience any "Breakthrough" with this one.Good build quality.

Programming is AWFUL Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I cuss this darned thing every time I push a button. The programming is an absolute nightmare. The buttons don't align with what they actually do and the instruction manual doesn't tell you how to get from where you are to where you want to be. I certainly wouldn't buy another one.

Great rig Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I've had mine for well over a year now and it does a great job. Easy to program, I get good audio reports, it's nice and small which is a plus since I have it installed in a little car with real estate at a premium, I was able to install it in the dash. The fact that the screen has dual color backlight might be nice for some people, but I just keep it amber all the time.
I liked it so much, I just bought a second one for my wifes car a few days ago.

Good VHF Rig Time Owned: more than 12 months.
This is a good rig and user friendly. Popular Rig among the HAM operators in my country. Well nothing bad about this rig. 65Watt RF power is good enough.

i would buy another one if needed Time Owned: 6 to 12 months.
what can i say. this radio is such a fb radio. very user friendly and the 65 watts is a plus. i don't know why some would to program on the fly, that's just like text messaging while driving.........w/c is not a smart thing to do.

anyway, i highly recommend this product. i would gladly buy another one for my other car.

thumbs down Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I would not advise anyone to buy this radio for D-Star! You can only place 6 repeaters in the routing - so if you have more than one path you can only place 3 repeaters.
Example
AA1HD C
AA1HD G

if you wanted to route thru to the B port that would narrow it down even more.

Why would Icom place a sever limit to the number of stored repeater routes? Beyond me!
Great 2 meter FM rig but not for D-Star, unless you visit only 2 or 3 repeaters.
