*%#$# Radio Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I went into HRO looking to buy a Yaesu which was not in stock and let the salesman talk me into purchasing this radio.
I like that it has a big heat sink body with no fan, 4 power levels, the LCD can be green or amber and sounds good. Lastly Icom manuals are well written.
I don't like the tiny print on all those microphone buttons, the microphone connection to the radio which is trouble waiting to happen in a rugged environment and how hard it is to program. To program it I must build an interface and find a copy of the software. I feel these should be included with any modern radio. I tried to program the radio manually with no luck.
The way it is sold today I rate it a 2, needs help. If the interface cable and software were included it would be a 4 - 5.

Very Good, Inexpensive Rig Time Owned: 3 to 6 months.
I bought one of these about six months ago when I needed something to toss in my Jeep _RIGHT NOW_ for a weekend event I hadn't planned to participate in. It's small, powerful, not *that* difficult to program, and built like a tank. I made an adapter to plug it into the Aux Power socket on my Jeep (a glorified cigarette lighter), and with my Larsen mag-mount, I can be On-The-Air in 10 minutes or less from the time I leave my apartment. I've had NO problems with ignition noise running like this, can run the radio on high power as much ass I need to, and consistently get "Good Audio!" reports. The bottom-firing speaker is great for hanging it under-the-dash, but since mine is set up for "Grab 'N Go", I just prop it up on the passenger seat with a little wood stand I had lying around, and strap it in with the seat belt so it doesn't go flying if Something Bad happens on the road. I would have given it a "4", but considering the price, I gave it a "5".
If all you need is a single-band rig, this has to be one of the best bargains out there.

superior and inexpensive Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
The first thing I noticed after first power up was the receiver.Very sensitive, and no pager issues. On the WX frequencys it was breathtaking.Easy to use and solidly built.A fantastic bargain at 139.95 after rebate.65 watts and no fan.It gets warm in long QSO's, but not too hot.Why buy a used rig?
Nice job ICOM.

Bummer Time Owned: 3 to 6 months.
I totally dislike this hard to program radio. Wouldn't work in my v-8 engine car (not enough filtering in the radio to keep it from going bonkers while the engine ran)...too many bells and whistles...takes a brain surgeon to program and remember what the 1,001 buttons, settings, knobs all do. ridiculous...and the only support I got from Icom was "tch, tch". Will never own another Icom (if I even think about it, please...someone call the butterfly net folk).

Still my Excellent Choice! Time Owned: more than 12 months.
More than a year that i have used & reviewed IC-2200H...

Radio havent given me problems, still puts out 65watts, PTT switch still works fine, the audio quality and mic sensitivity is still the same... gets hot in hi-power on long QSO...
other than that... nothing bad i can say bout this radio, except the price went down a bit.

Making it easy. Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I'm a new ham and I poured over all the reviews. I was looking to get a used IC2100 - going rate around $100 + $20 shipping. I found out that ICOM had a $20 winter rebate on the 2200 and it was a no brainer. For $20 more then my ebay budget I could get a brand new rig.

I read the manual as I fiddled with the straight forward buttons. In less then 30 minutes I had made several contacts, figured out repeater tones, and saved 4 stations to memory. The tone scan and auto repeater functions almost make it too easy to be a new ham. You have to try to screw it up. Memory functions are straight forward and easier then any handheld scanner I've ever programmed.

Audio reports are always great. Full quieting, clear, etc. Even when I found some 'dead spots' I kicked up the power and people were able to copy with no issues. I have been experimenting with different mag mounts and the ICOM 2200 makes them all sound good. The receive is always clear and I get very little noise with the engine running and NO noise when I'm stopped.

The unit is as rugged as promised. It was mounted in my rally car as soon as I got it and will continue to see motorsports abuse. It will be my primary mobile and then do APRS / emergency duty in the rally car on race weekends. Power poles are your friend. :)

I did run into the weird 5 second skipping audio problem. I freaked and then read (on here) that it would do that when the WX scan was enabled. I don't need that feature (must have enabled it while fiddling) - but it is puzzling why ICOM would be okay with the radio doing that. :|

I also had one day (maybe a week after buying it) where the mic wouldn't key up (and stopped keying mid transmit a couple of times). I opened the pickle and found a little bit of plastic 'debris' in between the rubber and the switch. I removed it and the mic seemed to operate fine after this point, so I don't think it was the mic switch problem... I will keep an eye on it though.

PROS:)
So easy a new ham can use it!
Clear recieve and transmit audio.
Cost - I didn't think I could buy new!
Look and feel is great!

CONS:(
The WX scan 'silence' every 5 sec when enabled.
Possible mic PTT issues?

Yes - It's only my first and maybe I'm biased. I'd give it a 4.8 if we had steps, but I'll round up to a 5 and drop by again if anything turns up.

It's a great unit and I've enjoyed making my first contacts with it. - Kris KI6IUC

Fine 2M Transceiver Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
This is my first Icom product. I am very happy with the function and ease of operation. Built to Mil Spec makes it a very heavy duty rig.
Our local Club is in the process of installing a D Star repeater and I plan on installing the UT118 board. Sounds like a lot of fun.
I will look at Icom for future equipment.

Great product!!! Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
This radio has received all good reports from all
my contacts. I am one who hate`s programming. This radio, and myself clicked instantly. The setup was easy, the little unit sounds good on
my end. I can go on forever, but if one needs a
rig with these specs,go for it. Good job Icom!!

Superb radio, easy to use Time Owned: 6 to 12 months.
This thing is awesome. It's a real chunk of a rig, very well made. The rig is very simple to use and intuitively laid out. Got mine at Dayton for $119....couldn't believe the price.
