Traditional audio filter with a cheesy case Time Owned: unknown months.
I use it with QRP rigs, so I guess it goes in this spot though it could be used with any transceiver/receiver. This kit was very easy to assemble and not hard to get up and running; it's a perfect complement to the CW op. It's relatively small, certainly lightweight and easy to use. It has push buttons, however, for on/off and then for selecting the narrowness -- I wish there had been a rotary switch option. It includes its own AF amp, with plenty of "oomph" to drive a small speaker or a set of low/high impedance headphones (connected via the built-in jack). My biggest concern is for its durability: I bought the case that goes with it and lo and behold, it's plastic all around! Couple that with all the parts mounted on the pc board -- including the two pots (volume and center frequency) and audio/power connectors -- and this thing is likely to give up the ghost when you don't want it to! It's not nearly the quality of the old Bencher ZX-2 but it is similar in performance. As long as you're aware of its mechanical limitations, though, I recommend it (maybe you can come up with your own case -- it's sold as board and parts only and the case is extra.) But it does work as advertised.
