Had a BC9000 for the last few years and it did a good job then local police and fire went digital 800 mhz trunk. The bc796d does a real good job of converting digital to analog. Sounds a little like digital cell phone and signal strength is more important. Signals that were real weak on 400 mhz analog may not be strong enough on 800 mhz digital. All the conventional freq's sound good and the audio seems stronger than the bc9000. Yes you can listen to digital trunk and analog freqs at the same time on the same band. Computer control is the only way to go. I found a local user group and copied a local file and uploaded all the local frequencies - what a time saver. Uniden software that comes with the unit is very basic. I like Butel's ARC250 software for serious but simple control. Uniden software is missing cut and paste and a few other features where standard with Butel. You can download free working demo of Butel at www.butelsoftware.com - if interested. All in all have noticed fewer birdies and a sharper receiver with a S-meter something that Uniden has just recently added to it's newer scanners. Have one bank set up for Ham Radio and local repeaters and 6 meter activity are very good. Have owned for about 2 weeks now and very pleased with this scanner.
