I love this Yeasu HT!! Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
This Yeasu HT is the BEST HT for those new Hams entering our realm! This HT is extremely easy to use as well as understand, plus the display screen size is large enough to read without any problems!! Also, get the speaker microphone, it makes it even more of a joy to operate this nice little HT!

power switch Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I really like the radio as it does everything I want to do and it seems to be doing it well . The only thing I wud like to see changed is the on / off switch . I find it difficult to turn the power on and off cuz the switch is so crowded by the ant jack and the squelch knobs . My fingers may be a bit big --- but not that big . Yes, I'd buy it again . This is my first HT . I want it most for when we travel . Hal

Rugged, easy to use, great value Time Owned: more than 12 months.
This is an update to my review some 3 1/2 years ago (KI4UCO). The day I passed my tech exam, I drove to R&L and bought the FT-60. It has been going strong ever since. Its been dropped several times, kicked, got wet and it still works great. The included antenna is ok, but 14" dual band from comet or jetstream works even better. I haven't had any issues with the programing software or the mic/speaker jack as others have mentioned. Just this year I bought another HT (triband, dual receive) and will probably use it as my primary HT, but the FT-60 will always be on hand, just in case. BTW, the first battery lasted a good 2 years before exhibiting insufficient battery life. Not bad considering it got daily use. Replaced it with an extended capacity NiMH and it is still performing well. As always whenever you buy an HT, get the AA battery tray.

Well Built Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
Manual programming of frequencies and Pls is a breeze. Really user friendly! The stock antenna doesn't work well. I replaced mine with a Diamond SRH77CA.

Love mine!! Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I have had mine for several years now and couldn't ask for more in a dualbander. I also use it for scanning military stuff-wish the scan rate was faster but no big deal! I use a MFJ collapsible whip which really helps. When extended it's a quarterwave on 2 and a 5 eighths wave on 440.

Recommend This Radio Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I purchased this radio new. Both the price of the radio and the accessories are much less than Icom. The owners manual is much easier to understand and the programming was less difficult than my T90A. The only drawback that I find is the design of the external mike jack which is one prong and located on the side of the radio. You MUST use the little tension clip that is supplied with the mike and mounts to the base of the antenna and mike cord. If you don't, there's a good possiblity you could loosen up the external mike jack which could lead to a transmit problem (as verified by a Yaesu tech.) Icom does use a better system by using a two prong jack that is inserted into the top of the radio. This is the only reason I gave it a 4 instead of a 5. The radio works fine, is easy to program as previously mentioned and has many features such as a lighted pad, and numerous memory channels. The audio is crips and clear. The bottom line is that this HT performs well and is definitely worth the investment. Yaesu also warrantees both the radio AND all accessories for one year with proof of purchase. I highly recommend this radio to both the novice or the experienced ham.

Great radio Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
Did my research, and, I definitely got what I paid for. I agree with KD5NDU, I hit a repeater 30 miles away, full quieting at 5w. I use the SRH77CA from Diamond and I have no complaints. The controls are easy, and the little puppy is pretty rugged. I put a MFJ mini-magmount on the car and on both 2m, and, 70cm I had no problem hitting repeaters on 2w, on 440, at 14 miles away. The belt clip is a dandy, it is strong and I often find it easy to clip right on to the cup holder in the car. Good clear crisp audio. This is my first hand held and I am not down playing other models or brands, but if you want simplicity on a dual bander with good price and easy use, I strongly believe you would be satisfied with this product. Would like to see a good carry case/ cover, but over all, I am satisfied. 73's.

Great little dual band HT Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
For a variety of reasons I cannot install a mobile rig in the car that I drive. This little radio solves all my problems. It is small enough to fit into the inside pocket of my backpack. Attach an ultra light mag mount 144/440 antenna from MFJ and I hit every repeater with the same clarity as I had with the FT-7800 that I had in my old car.

Not a scanner Time Owned: more than 12 months.
This is a great little HT but I bought it to main use mainly as a scanner, in that respect it's poor. Great receive but the scan speed is so painfully slow it's useless really. Pity, with it's alpha tags, flexible memory options and wide RX range it could be up there. Brill as a 2/70 handie though.
