| Space saver & works great too! |
Time Owned: more than 12 months. |
I bought my SEC 1223 a couple years ago after dragging a boat anchor linear supply off to a vacation operating "experience." It was money well-spent.
To be sure, the PS puts out some squirrelly notes here and there, most noticeably between 30 kHz and 3 MHz. Any "hash" above 3 MHz has been, for the most part, in none of the HF bands I hang around on. I will say that if you're planning on running VLF or 160m, you're better off getting a linear supply, but that's a common-sense call.
I've run a K2, an SG2020, an IC-718 and an IC-706 Mk2G off this supply (not all at once, of course!) with no problems at all.
It's clean, affordable & nicely engineered. I'd buy another one, if I could get away with it.

| Great ! |
Time Owned: 0 to 3 months. |
I'm using the SEC 1223 ( 23amp) one with my Icom IC-706MKIIG.
It works great on all bands.
160-10, SWL, 6m, 2m, 440.
The noise level is always the same as my gell cell battery, the Samlex SEC 1223 is just as quiet.
It's wonderfull. Very light and handy. |

| Outstanding Product!! |
Time Owned: 0 to 3 months. |
I purchased the Samlex SEC 1223 to power my Icom IC-V8000 as a base rig. I was skeptical at first because of the units size & price. But that notion quickly disappeared after using it for awhile.
When trasmitting, the V8000 draws 15 amps @75 watts. I participate in a few weekly 2m Emergency Nets. Because of the distances involved in my area, running at full power is the norm. The 1223's internal cooling fan came on only one time during a 2 hour SET when I was the acting NCS.
I have not experienced any TX reports regarding hum or noise. The RX side has been just as good for me. No noise, just clean audio.
I highly recommend this power supply. The workmanship is first class. The size is astonishing & the price is right. My hat goes off to the people at Samlex. They definitely know what's going on.

| Simply Amazing! |

| I have the Samlex 1223 model. And if I could give this one a "10" I would. What's not to like about it? I use it to power my IC-756. There is no noise, no heat, no nothing but clean power in an incredibly small, light, and INEXPENSIVE package. The engineers at Samlex have really pulled one out of the hat. Forget those big, bulky linear supplies - with the way switchers have advanced, there is no need to get them anymore (unless you just have too much money to spend!). |

| Great PSU! |
Time Owned: 3 to 6 months. |
I wanted a cheap PSU that would supply power to my IC-735. Boy oh Boy, am I ever glad I purchased this PSU!
At first when I saw it, I thought, "That's it?". I expected it to die the first time I keyed up, or that it would die if I ever used a 100 percent duty cycle digital mode constantly.
I have been working PSK31 and RTTY modes hardcore and this PSU hasn't died yet. You can't beat it for the price. This is one product that doesn't follow the rule of "You get what you pay for."!
My only wish is that the company that made this PSU introduce a model that has an edge-mount voltage meter and current meter, I'd snap it up in a second. |

| good value, but... |

| I have had this supply for over a year and find it dependable, light-weight, and compact. i use it primarily to power a dx-70t. while i don't detect any noise in the dx-70 that i can attribute to the supply, boatanchor receivers (hq-129x and r599d) i often have running in the shack DO detect minor motorboat-type noise from the supply. features/price ratio is excellent, though i'd like to replace it with a non-switcher for my primary ps. |

| small in size and cost, BIG in performance |
Time Owned: 0 to 3 months. |
| I bought my Samlex 1223 switching power supply shortly after I bought my IC-2100h. There for awhile I was hooked up to an Astron RS-7amp ps, the only problem with it was the fact that I could only run mid-power and I (like the rest of you) wanted more. I shopped around, read some reviews and found the Samlex. It's size alone was astonishing small, sleek, well ventilated and full of power. At $89 from my local HRO it wasn't hard to make up my mind. There is no white noise on the transmit or receiving end and it never gets warm even when I work it for an hour or so. I prefer it over my Astron for its size (weight too) and price. Like another had mentioned get an MFJ power strip and it'll run your entire radio room. 73's |

| Why buy a heavyweight? |
Time Owned: 6 to 12 months. |
This little gem has been great! I use it to run my TS-430S and my Icom IC-2100H and it has never missed a beat! I don’t think the fan has ever even come on, I am anxious to see how it does with digital modes though. I have never detected any RF hash or noise from the unit (my computer monitor generates enough of that)!
Things I like:
Light weight!
Inexpensive!
Lighted power switch!
Computer style removable AC cord!
Quirks:
DC connectors are white and red and have little set screws that could be easily lost.
Go get one! |

| Excellent samll switching supply, no RF hash |
Time Owned: 6 to 12 months. |
My supply is the Samlex SEC 1212, whichis a switching power supply rated at 10 amps continuous, 14 amps surge. It's the baby brother of the SEC 1223 the other reviewers have written up.
I mainly run QRP, but a while back I added a small Tokyo Hy-Power HF/6m amplifier (2-3W in, 50+W out) and I needed a power supply that would provide the 10 amps of current the THP linear needs. I chose the Samlex because it is small, lightweight, inexpensive, and had gotten excellent reviews in QST and elsewhere. I wanted a supply that wouldn't produce RF hash the way some of the noisy switching supplies do. The Samlex met those requirements, and has been absolutely flawless in my shack.
The supply feeds an MFJ power strip, and the entire shack draws power through the strip, so the Samlex is running everything and is in daily use. I've had no noise on transmit or receive on HF, 6m, 2m, 1.25m, or 70cm. I mainly run SSB/CW, including weak signal work on VHF/UHF, so the ability to hear weak signals is important. Some of my rigs (Icom IC-502A, various Mizuho rigs) can run off internal batteries, and I hear no difference between battery operation and operation on the power supply, whether I am running the amp and drawing close to maximum current or not.
I've had my SEC 1212 for six months now, and I would recommend it or the SEC 1223 highly. |
