Good TNC for packet and RTTY Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I've been owning this TNC for many years and it works very well for both packet and RTTY.
It could do also Amtor and SSTV, but for this I prefer using the many computer programs you can find.

If has DSP filtering but what I like most, it is not inside the box: it is its manual! This thick book describes every feature of the tnc and I used it even to learn the details on how packet radio actually works.

Another very interesting feature is the ability to tune all modulators and detectors simply moving some jumpers and using a voltmeter.
About one year ago I did it, following the procedure fully described in the manual, and the performance gain on receiving rtty was evident.

Unfortunately it is no more produced and today you can do many things just with your sound card, but this old TNC is very good, sensitive, reliable and came with an outstanding documentation.
Great!

Still Useful Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I use it for RTTY mostly. I recently resurected mine after I found that MixW software can be set up nicely to control the MFJ-1278. The copy-protected MFJ Multicom software I used previously is on a floppy and my new computer doesn't do floppies. As far as other software options for running this MFJ TNC, I've only found Hyperterminal and it is too primitive.

Don't have the DSP in this 1278 but the DSP in my Icom 756 pro 3 does the same job.

Does Exactally What It IS Suppose To Do Time Owned: more than 12 months.
Great controller. Does exactally what it is suppose to do and does it well. Sadly discontinued as well as most TNCs. For Packet and general AX .25 work it is a workhorse. The PK-232xxx still is the king on RTTY but for all general applications the 1278B &/T units hold their own.

TNC Time Owned: 6 to 12 months.
One of the best TNC's I have owned...
My elmer turned me on to these a while back and I have had it hooked up to My Kenwood HF and Yaesu VHF and they performed flawlessly...
The DSP hardware and Firmware updates were well worth the expense about $150 for both...

A little Noisy but after proper placment of the TNC it is a great performer

1278N/DSP 1278 DSP Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I have owned this for years. After I installed the MFJ-780 DSP module $109.00 I was even more impressed I could work inaudible signals.

This is an Amazing TNC

Second:
here is JORGE's review somewhat translated
REALLY I BELIEVE THAT IS THE BEST THAN I GET.
MFJ IS FLAT, THE BEST THAT PRODUCES THE OPTIONAL Operating conditions OF THE TNC's i TESTED.

THE 1278 OLD VERSION COMPARED TO THE 1278 dsp THERE REALLY IS A DEEP DIFFERENCE.
THE 1278B/DSP IS BETTER THAN THE AEA PK232 AND THE KAM BONUS ALL MODE EQUAL OR UPPER AL DSP 2232.

Troublefree Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I had mine for many years of troublefree operations for all digimodes. Owned a 1278 before which was not so good.

THE BEST Time Owned: more than 12 months.
REALMENTE CREO QUE ES LO MEJOR QUE REALIZO MFJ
ES ROTUNDO EL CAMBIO QUE PRODUCE EL OPCIONAL DEL DSP YO PROBE EL 1278 OLD VERSION Y REALMENTE HAY UNA PROFUNDA DIFERENCIA .
ES MEJOR QUE EL AEA PK232 Y EL KAM PLUS ALL MODE
IGUAL O SUPERIOR AL DSP 2232 .
SIEMPRE HABLANDO DE LA CLARIDAD DE RECEPCION EN LOS MODOS DE HF .EN PACKET SON TODOS PARECIDOS Y EL DSP2232 ES MEJOR .
