My homebrew 1/4-Wave beats this. Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I used mine in a wide valley, and it didn't get out worth a crap. Good VSWR's, but didn't work well at all for me. So, I gave this antenna away, made a hamebrew 1/4-Wave GND-Plane, and did great with that. On a hilltop, or on flat terrain, it may have worked for me. It certainly did not in my case where I used it at the time.

No complaints Time Owned: more than 12 months.
Had this antenna up at 32 feet for about a year and a half and it works wonderful. I'm able to hit Mt. Diablo, about 90 miles away. through some surrounding trees no problem. Seems to be weathering the elements quite well, too. No complaints so far.

Fine Time Owned: more than 12 months.
As with the 2M version, the 220-B is the same as the old "Ringo Ranger" but with an added ground plane kit 5/8 wave below the feed point to clean up the pattern by keeping the feed line from radiating. These antennas are all OK, they're just stacked 5/8 waves and have a little bit of gain over a dipole. The 220 model I give it a 4 instead of a 3, like I did the 2M model, because the radials are a shorter and have less tendancy to break off than the 2M model. The radials are made from pot metal and are brittle and cheap. I finally wound up getting some stanless thread, and used 3/8 aluminum tubing for the radals and they have lasted for years. Be sure to SEAL THE CONNECTORS!! Water tends to run down the threads on the top of the PL connector where the tuning rod connects.. Put a blob of hot glue on it. Then coat the PL connectors with vaseline and put the boot over it and you'll probably be OK.

Workhorse! Time Owned: more than 12 months.
Cushcraft is an underated company. All of their products I've owned have worked very well. Sure, they might not be the most mechanically elegant but once constructed they work as advertised. This antenna has performed very well indeed, it has been in service for several years on top of a 45' tower and continues to exhibit a 1:1 SWR and radiate as spec'd. Solid, reliable and affordable.
