Great Radio Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I've used the FT-2500 for many years. Great performance...no problems.

One of the best!! Time Owned: more than 12 months.
This is one of the best 2 meter mono-band rigs the Japaneese ever made period. They can be bought for around 100 dollars and you will not find a better old rig. One of Yaesu's best efforts.

Built like a tank Time Owned: more than 12 months.
Great 2M monobander. No intermod and no noisy
fan to keep it cool.

I've had mine since 1996. Only problem I have is
one of the lights burned out and I haven't
replaced it yet.

Looks Great, Works Great Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
It works great, and is the perfect size for my 89' Mazda 626. I don't have alot of space for mounting options, but this one really worked out perfectly! I would reccomend this to anyone!

Great Performer Time Owned: 3 to 6 months.
I have owned this radio for just under 6 months and use it as a mobile. The first thing of note is the very hot RX this radio has ,but the best thing I can drive right into the city and not even once get any pager intermod. The output power is right on the mark. The TX audio has bought many unsolisited comments of great audio.I did have a one problem it developed a loud buzz/hum on transmit, but it turned out to be caused by low current and was fixed with a conection direct to the battery. All up this radio is a very sturdy unit that really is a credit to Yaesu. I would recommend this radio to anybody who wants solid construction and great performance.

great radio, rugged, reliable Time Owned: more than 12 months.
got this as a new ham and have got to admit that I could not appreciate it until a few years of abuse has gone by. This radio has a very clear audio and transmit with a variety of antenna configurations. My most recent setup with this rig included a through the glass antenna and I still was able to hit the repeater 15 miles away on 5 watts very clearly. I love the 2500.

Commercial-Grade Radio Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I've owned two FT-2500's for several years now and have been completely pleased with their performance and quality. The FT-2500 has a commercial feel to it that hasn't really been duplicated since. I also own a couple FT-2600's, and while they are nice radio's my favorite is by far the FT-2500. I understand the FT-2800 has a similar build to the 2500, however has had some issues of it's own (it certainly looks nice though!).

I absolutely love my FT-2500's and have used them for both voice and packet operation. I really love the simplicity of this model, and the display is clear and easy to read under any conditions (as does the 2600 & 2800 models).

The 2500 does get quite hot when operated using high-power output. I don't think you'll find any radio with 50-watts output that doesn't get hot though. For long keydowns I recommend placing a cooling fan atop the heatsink, or at least behind it. This will greatly keep the heat minimized and help the overall performace of any radio.

Although no longer made, the FT-2500 is a wonderful radio from a time when radio's were way less complicated and much easier to use. I wish Yaesu would duplicate this design with other models. This is a highly recommended radio in my book.

excellent radio Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
Well the radio works excellent now!!! First off let me explain this a little. (1) all my equipment in my shack was purchased new by me, because I wasn't a fan of buying used equipment but I owned one of these FT-2500M's going back in '96 and now I was looking for it to sit on the shack desk to match with the cosmetics of my FT-920 HF/6. And since the radio is no longer in production - that's where Ebay came into the picture. I was using a radio Shack HTX-202 HT with matching 30watt RS 2-mtr amp. (2) I got this radio in one of those fabulous Ebay auctions. Radio was described as works perfectly! (as most of the people on Ebay do claim about their items). Guess what - the radio was working (it lit up) but very far from the "working perfect" as described. Thanks KB9QDI!!! (3) Radio ended up going back to Yaesu for repairs on Jan.10,2005 - I just got back the radio on Jan.30,2005 - radio is now working PERFECTLY!!! after another $96.28 investment to repair. The VCO unit was replaced. The radio was checked, inspected, retested and aligned if needed...

It's a great radio. Yaesu has yet to come up with a suitable replacement. Sure they made the FT-2600 (it had issues) and now they make the FT-2800 (which also has some of it's own issues that all seem to be in the QC). The FT-2500 is still an excellent radio when I had owned it in the mid-90's and, even with my Ebay misfortune, it still remains an excellent radio in my eyes. My days of ever doing anything with Ebay are finished.

Built like a brick. Time Owned: more than 12 months.
Bought mine new several yrs ago when the price was a little over $300. Have run it mobile in several different p/u trucks. Have also run it as a base. Just recently pulled back off the shelf and am running it mobile again. Yes it is missing some of the features of newer rigs but it still performs well. Wouldn't part with it.
