Outstanding 2 Meter Performance Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I am really pleased with my Yaesu FT-2500M. I bought it from Texas Tower's at Ham-Com in June of 1999. It is easily the finest 2-meter mobile rig I have ever owned and I wish Yaesu still made this fine rig. The quality of construction is better than anything that I have seen from Kenwood.

The rig I recommend.... Time Owned: more than 12 months.
When anyone would ask for suggestions for a good 2 meter 50 watt mobile rig, this is it. Its construction is excellent, solid as a rock, no internal fan, nice large heat-sink. Has a display with a light sensor that turns the display up in bright surroundings and automatically turns it down in dim condtions...sorta neat. The mic is nice with a "lit" DTMF keypad. Very easy to open up TX by clipping one wire inside... I've had three, my father got my last one, now I use a Yaesu FT-847. This rig is still today a gem of a rig and going for peanuts of its worth...

Good solid radio Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I bought my 2500 used and have found it to be a very good radio. In setting up my mobile station however, I found that the output, instead of being 5, 25 and 50 watts was 5, 45 and 50 watts!! I get good audio reports and had it not been for hooking up a power meter to it I would never have known the difference. Oh yes, one of the bulbs has burned out.

ROCK SOLID ! Time Owned: more than 12 months.
You're right. A great RIG.
Being very often on the road on mountain tops, i can say that the FT2500 is one of the very rare HAM RIG that is still usuable under severe QRM.
You still can use it very close to a repeater and in overcrowed RF environments.
Unbeatable for this price !

If you can find one- Buy It! Time Owned: more than 12 months.
Purchased new shortly after being released by Yaesu my FT2500 has served me well both as a mobile and base unit. Never having a problem, everything worked out of the box and still does.Excellent controls, readout, signal reports.Easy to use. Easy to program.Solid radio. I would buy another if I could find one.

Wonderful Radio Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I picked up the FT-2500M right after it was introduced as the replacement for the 2400, a radio I found to be 'ok'. The 2500 was very much improved, both performance, and ease of use. I have used it as a mobile the entire time, in 4 different vehicles, 3 4x4s used dialy on very rough roads, and often off-road. I did have to flush the radio and replace the speaker after it was submerged (never mount on the tranny hump in a truck that does alot of water crossing). Overall a *very* rugged easy to use radio.

GREAT RADIO Time Owned: unknown months.
THIS WAS A SUPER BARGIN WHEN I PURCHASED THIS RADIO LAST YEAR. IT HAS A RUGGED CASE AND IS SLIGHTLY LARGER THAN OTHER RADIOS BUT HAS A LARGE HEAT SINK TO DISSIPATE HEAT ON THOSE LONG QSO'S ON HIGH POWER. IT HAS THREE POWER SETINGS THAT ARE SPREAD OUT;5,25, AND 50 WATTS UNLIKE ITS COMPETITORS WHO ONLY HAVE 5 AND 50 WATTS OR 5, 10, AND 50 WATTS. IT IS VERY EASY TO PROGRAM WITH 28+ MEMORY SETTINGS. IT HAS MOST OF THE FEATURES OF THE HIGHER PRICED MODELS. I AM TRULY SATIFIED WITH THE PRODUCT. YAESU HAS DONE IT AGAIN.

Hum/grounding problem after 2 weeks Time Owned: unknown months.
This is the first Yaesu VHF radio I've purchased, after several Kenwoods. After two weeks, it developed a nasty buzz/hum on transmit. I called HRO in Denver where purchased, and they said since it was past the 10 days, I'd have to send it back to Yaesu. I wasn't impressed. So far, I still haven't returned it for repair because it's a much-needed base station for our family in remote country. The buzz is intermittent, and louder at times than other times. Otherwise, it looks like it would be a good radio...easy to program, rugged case, etc. It's much bigger than most other mobiles. I guess I should send it off, and bite the bullet for a couple months.
