Got FTBCAT working on Linux! Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
Using it for my FT-847. It works just fine for what I want it to do, which is to scan a list of repeater frequencies.
Even though it is Windows software, I have gotten it to run on Ubuntu Linux.

For you linux people, here are the details:
Operating System: Ubuntu 12.04 LTS
Wine Interface: Codeweavers "Crossover Linux" version 13.0.0
FTBCAT V2.1.0.

1) In Crossover Linux Install the following in an XP bottle re-named to "FTBCAT":
* Flash 10 ActiveX Control
* Microsoft Visual Basic 6 Service Pack 6 Runtime.

2) From another Windows XP machine, copy the file c:\windows\system32\mfc42.dll into the FTBCAT XP bottle system32 directory: ~/.cxoffice/FTBCAT/drive_c/system32/

3) In Crossover Linux, Install FTBCAT into the FTBCAT XP Bottle using the FTBCATSetup.exe program.
The program should install without errors.

4) If your computer is using (for example) the /dev/ttyS0 serial port to communicate with your radio, then in a linux command terminal type:
ln -s /dev/ttyS0 ~/.cxoffice/FTBCAT/dosdevices/com1.
This will create a link to allow FTBCAT to detect your radio on COM1.

5) Start FTBCAT. In options>settings, select your COM port and rig. At the bottom of the window, check "Autostart" and close the window. Restart the FTBCAT program.

6) It should work now. Enjoy!

Easy to use. Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
My radio is a Yaesu FT-450AT. This is a reliable program with a layout that is intuitive. Everything on the screen is explained with a pop-up. I bought a USB/serial cable "Plugable USB to RS-232 DB9 Serial Adapter (Prolific PL2303HX Chipset)" on Amazon for $15. You'll also need a $2 DB9 female/female gender bender to plug into the CAT port. Don't get a cheaper gender changer because they usually have a loose fit in the port. The cable came with a driver installer on CD but I didn't use it. Windows 7 already has the proper driver. Set CATRATE for whatever works (mine works fine at 32.4 K baud), plug in the cable before starting FTBCAT and it will find the port. The lastest version is 2.0.9 and it works flawlessly.

great for remote control Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I'm using this for remote control of my FT-857D via LogMeIn and Skype. Works great. Any questions on how to do this just e-mail me. The integration with Bob's other memory software is a real plus. You can load CSV files right into it. FTBCAT has a very clean interface. Support is top notch! Besides, you can't beat the price:)
