Every microfone will work Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I have had the EQ Plus for a few years now. The thing is great! I can connect almost (not all) microphones or headsets and adjust them to have an excellent sound. Even headsets or microphones that usually sound muffled. Even the ad hoc switch to DX punch is just to do. I can only highly recommend it!

I purchased my EQ Plus to mainly use on AM, After a few minor adjustments I was on the air. My first contact was WA1HLR, Tim, in Maine. He stated that my audio sounded wonderful and emphatically stated "it definitely does not sound like a ricebox" lol. That's all I needed to hear. After a short time of ownership, I am a big W1IHY supporter.

On SSB, the EQ PLUS was a pleasant surprise. Everyone I spoke with stated that I sounded "punchy" and "clear". This would help in breaking break a pileup. I'm not a dx'er but am quite pleased with my audio reports. I generally ragchew on SSB, AM & CW.

I must give kudos to Julius for his excellent customer service. BTW, Julius live 15 miles from me.

TURNING ON THE COMPRESSOR ON THE EQ PLUS HAS THE SAME EFFECT AS TURNING ON AN AMP.... THIS FEATURE ALONE IS WORTH THE COST OF THE EQ PLUS...AT LEAST 6DB OR MORE ARE THE REPORTS IM GETTING...AN S UNIT ON THE OTHER END USING ONLY A FEW MILLIAMPS FOR POWER!!! ITS EVEN MORE FUN WHEN U DO HAVE AN AMP...IM NOT KIDDING!!! NOT TO FORGET THAT UR AUDIO WILL STAND OUT IN THE PILEUPS ...I PROVE IT EVERY NIGHT ON 20...IM NOT 20 0VER 9 USUALLY BUT MY AUDIO IS CRYSTAL CLEAR AND IT STANDS OUT!!! I CAN COMPETE WITH THE BIG GUNS!!!

it is my pleasure not only to own and use the ihy gear that gives ur ssb signal an fm sound quality it is also a pleasure to do biz with julius he is just a nice guy had my eq plus up and running in 5 minutes my first a/b report with it was " you sound like ur in the room with me u sound like an fm station never thought ssb could sound that good what is that thing ur using" just getting used to the eq plus have yet to hook up the ihy 8 band BUY ONE tu es 73

I recently purchased the W2IHY 8 Band Equalizer/Noise Gate, EQPlus, and IPlus. To say that I'm pleased is an understatement. I was able to contact 22 countries this past contest weekend running 100 watts barefoot on an 18ft whip antenna in my backyard. I've NEVER been able to break the 6000 mile range with that setup until running his equipment for the first time this weekend. The compressor and downward expander on the EQPlus flat out WORKS. I was able to break through on many pile-ups by flipping a switch. BAM!!!!! Under headphones and through the monitor function there isn't even a comparison between the rigs compressor and the one on the EQPlus. Night and day!!!
If you were to buy one piece of his equipment, the EQPlus would be it. I purchased the IPlus more so to manage three separate radios. All of his equipment can be ran as stand alone and it is also designed to be integrated with additional pieces of equipment.
The 8 Band EQ and the EQPlus are a perfect combination for better audio in my opinion. I HIGHLY recommend ALL of the audio equipment from W2IHY and it's well worth the money spent.

I consistently receive better reports than I give. I use this with any where from 2 watts to 800 and I'm here to tell you that this machine truly is a poor mans amplifier and the support is second to none! Julius is a really good man and takes very good care of his customers. Buy it. You won't regret it! Put some real punch in your audio,

I just received a 59 report from St Croix and the op wouldn't believe that I was running 1 watt.

Just purchased my third unit for different locations. What a pleasure to deal with Mr. Jones someone who truly looks out for his customers. I even use one on the Flex 6700. Works better than the Flex software I believe from reports I have received.Easy to setup with great results.

As mentioned in my other review on the W2IHY 8 band EQ I can only say, you need to have this EQ+ in combination with the 8 band. This simple device allows you to get the sparkle and effect you always wanted. During numerous of QSO's people have asked me why I had the EQ+ besides the 8 band and after giving them a short ON AIR demonstration they all understood why this EQ+ is a MUST to have …

So if you want to have a broadcast, warm, strong and sparkling audio. The EQ+ will does the job.

I'm a portable operator currently using radios like the FT818nd, FT857D and the FT991A.

When using the ft-818 for example by itself..t's a qrp radio no doubt. I can send CQ for hours normally without making any contacts. Enter the EQ plus..Using lithium batteries and a park bench..who needs to sound like a portable station. From what I learned...it's the modulated audio that is heard on the other end... NOT the strength of the RF carrier. The compressor on this device is insane. We get like 300-3000hz usable and I have a mid-range voice that sounds kind of shrill. So this thing takes what I've got and compresses it into the available audio range we can muster with these radios This device can work with any mic and Julius will write a proposal for your station from a systems design approach and create cables that match snd meet your requirements. He gave me all the time and availability I needed to make my setup work with my personal requirements. I've wanted one of these things for a while but I didn't realize they could be used portable. In fact that may have been the whole idea behind this product. course one has the option to listen to it via the audio line before you unleash this BEAST on 80m. Do you like AM? It's not easy to sound good on this mode. Try this machine on ESSB or AM and create a new band opening. what is really interesting me now is the ability to use his I box to prevent RF from getting into your speakers processing and receive line when you are transmitting with compromised antennas. I'm going to write another review this after I've owned this product for longer but these are my initial reactions to it.

** Addendum** After re-reading the manual I uncovered the following specifications which exceed my intially estimated 300-3000hz. Standard EQPlus is 50hz to 3.5khz. This has a maximum configurable bandwidth than I initially realized which lends to its performance. There is a also a wideband mod that covers 50hz to 8khz. I feel its important to mention this to address the EQ plus configurability and flexibility. - Marc KE2BP

I'm using the EQplus with the M100 dual element mic and the FTDX5000. The MD-100 and the M100 pick up a lot of background noise. Even with moderate mic gain. Running a server in the shack is an annoyance. So the main reason I purchased the EQplus is to eliminate fan noise.

Had some troubles to adjust it at first. The sound out of the headphones was not what I expected. The effects sounded brutal and raw. But with my SDR and Audition I got it right. The downward expander does a great job and the difference is like day and night. Compression is really powerful. No idea how people can run it at 2 o'clock. The Equalizer works well together with the parametric EQ in the FTDX5000.

Julius customer support is just outstanding.
