8-BAND EQ & NOISE GATE

I bought the 8-Band EQ used and it does what I expected it to do. It just adds that little extra that we all seek in our SSB audio. I have mine set for "ragchew" audio but simple adjustments to the slide pots makes for nice contest audio. I have gotten unsolicited 'FB" reports on SSB and even on AM with my Kenwood TS-870S. The AM guys were suprised to find I was running a solid state rig. It takes a little tinkering but with some help from on air hams, you can get things to sound nice. My goal was to sound natural and not processed. The noise gate was a pleasant suprise as well. It really quieted things down in the shack. For the price, it sure beats the high end rack equipment.

EQ PLUS

After using the 8-Band EQ for a few months, I opted to try the EQ Plus. I was pretty sure the 8-bander was all I needed, so I was not really sure the EQ Plus was needed. I have the say the EQ Plus is more than adequate as a stand alone unit. It has base and treble control which in most cases will suffice to make just enough changes to your SSB audio that you don't need the 8-Bander. The compression/downward expander works as advertised and really perks things up! Gone are the days of the rig's internal speech compresser and all the junk that comes with it in the way of backround shack noise and splatter. Adding the proper amount of compression is very effective in increasing average talk power and the downward expander does an ok job an lessening shack noise. The effects processer is an added toy that I don't think we really need but when set right it makes for a little extra touch in that "wet" sound that people talk about (whatever that is).

The most important thing is to have your rig and ALC adjusted properly. Have the mic input levels from your mic to EQ set right and the units set for natural articulate audio and you won't be dissappointed. You can get them used for decent prices and the plug and play aspect makes for easy experimentation and evaluation. The construction is ok and I was able to rectify a minor RF issue which was not the W2IHY gear's fault.

I first bought 8 band equaliazer and was much pleased with the performance. Back in Dayton Hamvention, May this year I stopped by the booth of Julius and tested a combination of 8 band EQ and EQ Plus with a Heil microphone. It was very impressive and I bought EQ Plus immediately.

The two EQ combination so far has been working very well and has given more punch to my signal for calling DX stations. EQ Plus is more than another linear amp if you well set up with a microphone and transceiver.

Just a few days ago all of sudden my EQ Plus didn't power on. I tried everything possible but no success. I sent an e-mail for help to Julius. It was Friday morning. A few hours later Julus gave me a phone call and also sent a follow-up e-mail. He promised shipping a replacement unit soon.

On Monday evening when I returned home I found a box on my desk in the shack. It was another EQ Plus from Julius. It was ONLY third day after I contacted Julius! Of course the unit worked fine. On that night I called CY0AA in dog pileup on 17m band with 8 band EQ and EQ Plus combination. Believe it or not I got a call back with only one time calling!

I want to thank Julius so much for his excellent service and support as well as awesome performance by EQ Plus! Julius, you and EQ plus are no comparison!!

Sorry to bore everybody with yet another praise report on Julius, but it is my duty to share my thoughts. Julius is truly amazing. His customer service is world class. He’s articulate, thorough, fun and down to earth. Allow me to explain…
I live in a community that is heavily burdened with CC&R’s and those conditions have forced me to keep my antennas low to the ground and right above my head in the shack. In fact, the feed-point of my 75m dipole is exactly 15 feet from my radio gear. To say that my transmitter is in the “near-field” is a gross understatement!!! For this reason my new W2IHY EQ plus was being hammered by RFI. I sounded like Darth Vader at power levels above 400w. When I contacted Julius about my problem, he blew my mind! Julius said, “My EQ can handle that environment. I just need to send you another unit with some additional mods.” UNBELIEVABLE… The new EQ was at my front door the very next day! To make things even sweeter he paid for all the shipping. He told me to call him in a day or so to report back yet the funny thing is he called me first! Julius cared enough about the issue that he called me to give me pointers over the phone. I hooked up the new EQ and it works perfect! Absolutely NO RFI!!!! Even at power levels above 1KW the audio sounds delicious and clean. I have never sounded so Hi-Fi on the ham bands. I can’t say enough good things about the product or its designer. I am VERY happy with all aspects of the purchase and truly feel I have made a new friend in the process.

Stock audio from a Kenwood TS-2000 and a Heil Mic always commanded good audio critiquing. I started out with the 8 bander just to help get rid of the fan noise from a new AL 1500. Then I heard a few stations running the EQ Plus. Then I bought an EQ plus and took with the mindset to take advantage of the 30 day money back guarantee I was getting ok reports when I switched the mic to the MFJ desk mic. Now I have a Sure PG58 with nothing less that outstanding reports. The only bad reports I get are the guys who are jealous of my studio quality audio. After a few days of tweaking and getting help from W4SAL (SALAMIZED AUDIO) I am getting outstanding reports. I tried other processing equipment that resulted in intermittent RFI. I realized that one couldn’t rely on a music store for customer service or product issues when hooking up non-ham radio equipment to the gear. Julius takes the time to call every customer back and spoke to me for over 30 minutes. You want an excellent product that is made by a Ham for Hams, then give Julius a call at W2IHY.

All I want to say is WOW Batman! I love it….This device can do more for your transmit audio than anything else available, anything…. It took me 15 minutes to setup the EQplus and the W2IHY and then BAM….IMMEDIATE improvement to my transmit audio.
Many guys run a Behringer, I did once upon a time, never again. I moved up to a Symetrix 528e that was a 100 percent improvement. Then I made the move to EQplus. OH - MY - GOD. You can make your audio sound like a broadcast station if that's what you want, or you can fine-tune the transmit audio for DXing, rag-chewing With the EQplus and 8 band EQ there is enough audio shaping ability to satisfy most all of your SSB audio desires.
Now for the best part, Julius. He is always there to help out. Always friendly and honest.
You will not be disappointed with Julius . I will always remember how nice he is and he make you feel great, his customer service is legendary.

I asked Julius about the eq plus and he told me I would love it,If I did not like it,send it back for a full refund,This box was so easy to setup it was a dream!!I highly recommed this eq plus,I am useing it with the 8 band w2ihy,I never touched the 8 band eq when setting up the eq plus,It really adds a lot of punch and warmness to your audio,a very full but clean sound.Jullis you have a winner!!!thanks so much for the help,w4dzo

after getting a 8 band eq off e-bay checked out the website decided to buy one here in the uk they are alot more than in the us so i got one direct saved money and it was here in 3 days easy to operaye and compliment any audio

I bought the W2IHY 's EQplus last month. Since I'have it, my modulation is fully transformed ! My voice, as said others OM, sounds clearest and better than all other DSPs (much expensive) I've tried in the past. With the very well built cable selled by W2IHY, I can use it both on my Kenwood TS-870s and on my Drake TR7 line. I want to tell you that the EQplus is Universal. I'm using it with many different microphones such as an Astatic, a Turner, a Kenwood and a Shure.
Undoubtly, I 've decided to use it with a W2IHY 8-band eq.

In conclusion, I want to thank this friend, Julius W2IHY, for his beautiful job, which sound better than all other processors. I wish you to sell it in France one day, because it can be the answer for a lot of Modulation's problems and some HF returns or perturbations due to the microphone which are very common on French's bands. So I must encourage all OM buying such a product. The shipping conditions are excellent for foreign countries.

I was proud to be one of the "testers" for the EQ Plus. I have owned a W2IHY 8 Band EQ for about two years and I love it! Everywhere I operated I would get glowing compliments on the transmit audio. Now that I have the EQ Plus, the compliments are even more numerous. Everyone is amazed to hear that I am using a Bob Heil Goldline, on a Kenwood TS 850, the W2IHY 8 Band EQ and the W2IHY EQ Plus!!! Both new friends and old friends continue to compliment me over and over again. This is a great set of products AND a company with GREAT customer service, that stands behind their product and appreciates their customers.
