Excellent physical product, email support prompt. I bought the CAT C-IV interface in error so I had change the 3.5mm plug - now with a stereo / mono adapter I can program my icr3, ict90a and with the adapter cat contol my ic 820 and ic 736.

An inexpensive alternative Time Owned: 6 to 12 months.
Hi all,

Simon and I are often asked for recommendations for ready-made interfaces for various rigs. Recently the CI-V interfaces built and sold by Neil - G4ZLP - were brought to my attention, and I was able to get my hands on one to see if the design is any good.

Neil's interface has to be one of the best non-commercial versions that I have seen. He uses a proper metallised DB-9 cover for the interface proper, good screened cable and 'real' plug made of metal: no cheap and nasty plastic here, thank you very much. The interface is supplied with basic instructions for use with Ham Radio Deluxe and a few other popular programs.

I was able to test the interface with an Icom 706MkIIG, and it all functioned as it should. Taking the price of the interface and the quality of finish into consideration you probably can't do much better than this. He uses SMD components on a purpose-made PCB. I have recently acquired a Yaesu version, and this too works perfectly: I can't see the point in using anything else.

I should also point out that this design uses a true RS232 converter: NOT a cheap'n'nasty transistor alternative...
