Review Summary For : DXSR VB-800
Reviews: 4MSRP: 350
Description:
1.8 à 3.5 MHz et de 30 à 52 MHz moyennant l’utilisation d’un coupleur.

Description Directly extrapolated our famous MULTI GPII PRO, DXSR VB 800 profits from all the advantages of its elder as its specific feeding system which allows the emission and the reception from 3.5 to 30 MHz without the assistance of one limps of coupling with a maximum ROS of 1.8:1.
It can be also used from 1.8 to 3.5 MHz and 30 to 52 MHz with the help of the use of a coupler. This antenna does not require any plan of ground or radians and functions with an unspecified height in report/ratio on the ground.
DXSR VB 800 is built out of tubes of glass fibre assembled between them by sockets screwed out of massive brass. Its mechanical design of high strength enables him to support cycles of very frequent assembly / disassembling without any damage and the size of its elements makes it easily transportable in any car. It does not require any adjustment and can be made operational in record time of less than 2 stopwatch minutes.

Characteristics:
Vertical antenna 1.8 to 52 MHz, without trap doors.
Use from 3.5 to 30 MHz without coupling unit with a maximum ROS of 1.8:1
Do not require any radians or plan of ground.
Specific feeding system (not of transformer 1/9 or 1/10, nor of resistances...) on connector SO 239.
Fixing on mast of Ø 30 to 50 mm.
Parts of connection of the elements made out of massive brass.
Assembly or disassembling in 2 minutes " Stopwatch ".
Possible use starting from the ground (2 m in height advised minimum)
Elements out of glass fibre tubes Ø 32.5, 28.4, 25.0, 12.0, 8.0 mm
Wind resistance guaranteed to 180 Km/h.
Electric length: 7 m.
Total mechanical length: 5.25 Mr.

VB-800 or dummy load, this antenna has the same performances !! Time Owned: more than 12 months.
This antenna was used for HF operation from February 2002 to April 2005 at the top of the tower (15m) but in front of such results so catastrophic I decided to stop using it any more. This antenna works like a dummy load from top band (160m) to 40m. On the shorter bands it is quite ok. This antenna dissipates power in the matching circuit, it cannot be used at rated power (800W) as indicated on the instruction manual. 100W key down should be a maximum. If you set higher power, the SWR goes up and never ending. But some minutes standby and the SWR is back ok, this is a bit amazing. If you need a good dummy load, try it !!!
I replaced it by an Hy-Gain AV-620 multiband with very great results.... It's like comparing day and night.

Usable on higher bands Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I have added 9 radial elements, hoping that this will improve results, but overall it didn't help.

Reception is improved with radials added since I can hear a lots of DX's, however the SWR is worse on lower bands (40m). It is even worse on 80/160m.
Since I operate mostly on 40m/CW, this antenna is useless for me.
The photo of my current antenna is here:

The Excel spreadsheet in JPG format of experiments that I have conducted:

If anyone knows better way for improvements on lower bands, please let me know. In the mean time I'm giving up with this antenna and erecting a full L/4 vertical for 40mtrs.

Usable on 20...10m only Time Owned: more than 12 months.
Indeed, this antenna works like a dummy load on 80 and 40m. On the shorter bands it is quite ok.

As far as this antenna dissipates power in the matching circuit, it cannot be used at rated power (both 800W or the older 1500W versions). 100W key down is the maximum on 80m, 200w on 40m. If you set higher power, the SWR goes up never ending. But some minutes standby and the SWR is back ok, this is a bit amazing ... no destructive behavior.

The SWR is totally flat and better 1.5:1 from 80m through 10m without gaps, but this doesn't help ...

Bad antenna Time Owned: more than 12 months.
This antenna is a good construction but very bad results.
In broadcast,a dummy load is much better !!
Very expensive for his performances.
