Junk Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
This is a worthless piece of junk. With a new load of Duracells, mine would just barely melt .032 diameter solder. It would not melt .062 solder.

This product should be taken off the market.

Don't waste your money!

resistance soldering at the worst level Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I actually work for RS and will never sell one to my customer. I even have one behind the counter to prove how awful it is.....for $7.99 you get a real iron plus all the stuff u need...

Great tool, works like mig welder Time Owned: 3 to 6 months.
This is a great tool to have when you don't like to wait for standard irons. I use it for wire soldering and small stuff (and in the absence of electrical power) Now I wouldn't go reccomend someone use it to sweat pipes (use a propane torch and a lead core wire), but it's great for electronics work.

Use it like a mig welder, only you wait to see the spark on the tip and touch the solder. The space makes for a nice guide for joints. Granted you can't use anything larger than a .032 wire, but that's all you need for electronics. I don't do large-scale work (like antennas, feed cable, pcb work), so this is great for me. Definatly a staple in the toolbox!

Pure Junk Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
Save your money. The local Radio Shack refunded my money without a fuss.

I'll wait until the 2005 Santa Maria Swapfest next month and find a good soldering iron.

Useless Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
Save your money. This thing does not melt solder (sort of a basic requirement for a soldering iron, huh?). I tried just getting it to melt a piece of thin solder (0.032 diameter, 60/40 mix); it couldn't do it. Bottom line: a nice looking piece of junk.

Save Your $ & Buy and Real Soldering Iron Time Owned: more than 12 months.
Took mine back the same day I bought it. I teach electronics and this is worthless for any real soldering. It supplies no heat so if you are trying to solder a lap joint of two #14 wires forget it. The solder just melts at the tip and the work is not heated so you can not get a good wet joint. Go to any electronics store or OHS and buy a real soldering iron for less money. I have used a rechargeabel battery powered Wahl iron for the past 25 years. Take a look at it first if you want a portable iron.

eternal skeptic Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I've never owned one other than I received one for christmas, and promptly took it back to ***** for a refund...un-opened!

Anything being sold "As seen on tv" should be viewed with skepticism.

I have been an electronics tech for 30+ years, and anyone who has a modicum of bench-dicipline knows you don't use a "wire-welder" on circuitry that utilizes FET components...descreets or I.C.s!
The EMP produced even at very low voltages can be sufficient to destroy FETs.

In as much as an emergency soldering iron....one can do some light "wire-to-wire" work with it, but don't expect miracles.

POS Time Owned: 3 to 6 months.
In this wonderful time where technology keeps getting better.....this POS has served to DE-EVOLVE the soldering tool. What junk!!!

i wonder if everyone else had the same reaction I did after taking it out of the package and realizing how it worked? Mine was.."What the ****, this is rediculas, what could I possibly solder with it? Might as well have bought $19.99 worth of packing peanuts."

Worthless Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
Someone at work bought some for the shop. These things are terrible. Trying to solder a multistrand wire, it heated only one strand. Once it got hot enough to take solder, then the other strands started to heat. Meanwhile the insulation is beginning to turn into a blob.

It seems to "work" by passing enough current through the wire to heat it. Powered by small battery. Sound too good to be true? It is!
