good unit Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
It does what it says on the tin. Audio is getting through just fine, filters are OK but I am not going to use them. Made in China, but that doesn't have to be a bad thing.

Don't expect much! Time Owned: 3 to 6 months.
Wow, what happened to quality in an external speaker? I have a SP-20 that sits on the next shelf up, that my Pro3 sounds great with. Paying 200 bucks for the SP-23, you would expect decent sound quality. I give it a 1 rating, only for it matching the radio. The sound quality is below that. I love my Pro3, but if I had known the speaker was MFJ type quality, I would have saved 200 bucks. Now I read reviews before I order. It looks good by the radio, but thats all I can give it. I will try another speaker in the case before I hook it back up.

It's Matches - That's About It Time Owned: 3 to 6 months.
This is not a great speaker. It matches the PRO III and it looks good together, but if you're looking for great audio quality look elsewhere.

Not what you expect Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
Not at all what you would expect from Icom. Made in China. Audio sounds tinny, too high pitched. Filters help somewhat. I'm going to install a different speaker in it. Way too expensive for what you get.

Nice match to the Pro III Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I bought the SP-23 to match my Pro III, and found it to be fine in the audio department as well. Just as good as my old SP 3, with the addition of some good filtering and inputs for two radios. Pricy, but the only game in town in the matching speaker department.

Good Speaker Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I read these reviews, after ordering my SP-23, and was discouraged about it's performance - at least until it arrived, and I hooked it up to my 746 PRO. This speaker does exactly what it is designed to do. It is a clean, sharp sounding communications speaker with some helpful filters included. IT is also superior in this regard to the stock speaker in the 746 PRO. If you want hi-fi speakers, get some Tannoys, or at least a bookshelf speaker. If you want a high quality speaker that will help you communicate, and look good doing it, the SP-23 may be for you. I gave it a 4 instead of 5 because I thought the price was a bit high. Look for the lowest price, and get your local Ham shop to match it. That's what I did.

Poor quality sound Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I purchased this speaker with the 756 PRO III and was unimpressed from day one. Filters were next to useless. It sits next to the radio now but is disconnected and an old Optimus shelf speaker is connected instead. The sound is no better than than the speaker in the radio itself. The IC-SP3 was OK but the SP-23 is well not worth the price.

SAVE YOUR MONEY Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I have an Icom 756 Pro II and 746 Pro. The SP-23 is the "matching" speaker for both of these radios, so I thought I would try one. Simply put, I wasted $200! The audio quality is just "OK" at best. My "SOUNDS SWEET" is a million times better. And even other "matching" speaker I own, are much better (Yaesu SP-5, Icom SP-20, etc.) Yes, it looks nice sitting there next to the Pro II and matching power supply ... but I have it hooked up to my 2 meter rig and I use the Sounds Sweet for HF.

Nice speaker Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I bought the SP23 as a second speaker for the radio I was only monitoring. I have a NCS Multi-Switcher for switching the audio output. The main speaker is a Sounds Sweet. Particularly for the ICOM 821 that I use to monitor the local repeaters, the SP23 does the better job. For SSB on the 756Pro, the SS does a better job. The bigger speaker for obvious reasons puts out a better audio signal. The SP23 filters are nice for reducing the PL tone that the repeater puts out in our area. I believe it to be a good speaker but there are probably better ones out there depending on your hearing ability and tastes. It does match my 756Pro though. 73.
