Review Summary For : West Mountain Radio PWRcrimp Powerpole crimp tool
Reviews: 23MSRP: $49.95
Description:
High performance Powerpole crimp tool for a reasonable price. Crimps all three sizes of Powerpole contacts; 15, 30 and 45 amp. Ratcheted mechanism assures proper crimps every time. Contact positioner holds contacts correctly while crimping. Far faster and better than soldering.
The highest strength and the lowest resistance connections possible. Long high leverage handle makes even 45 amp 10 gauge crimps easy.

Superb Tool Time Owned: 6 to 12 months.
I probably crimped a few hundred Anderson Powerpoles over the past few years using the improvised $8.00 Gardner-Bender crimpers. After a few initial miscues, I was able to make most of them successfully. But others never got the hang of it.

I was therfore delighted to see PWRcrimp offered for sale at Dayton 2004 and immediately bought one. It is a well designed product that allows a neophyte to make a perfect crimp in less than five seconds. The crimp is perfectly made and even has secondary dimple on the reverse.

It is pricey but very well made and a lot less than Anderson's own $150 product. West Mountain radio had to have the dies for the contacts custom made which accounts for the price.

Every radio club should own one, as should every ARES/RACES EC, to encourage the standardization of DC connections in their area. It pays off in an emergency and for common efforts such as displays and Field Day.

Excellent Crimps Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I agree with WB6MMV's review of the PWRcrimp tool. Being right handed I must give it a perfect review.

The crimping is excellent and the inserts fit the housings easily and properly. The result is superior to a solder job in my opinion. I have used several approved crimping tools in aircraft radio installations and West Mountain's tool compares quite favorably.

I am very satisfied with West Mountain's power panels and am replacing all 12 volt wiring with the Powerpoles.

Do not - repeat - do not waste your money on the cheap $10 crimpers offered for the Powerpoles. They are absolutely useless as a crimping tool and even the wire cutter part is worthless.

I am very satisfied with West Mountain Radio's products.

Great tool Time Owned: 3 to 6 months.
I purchased the PWR crimp tool after converting all my DC connectors to the PowerPole type connector. Originally I used a cheap crimp tool and the results were not inspiring. I often use #12 or #10 wire with the 15 & 30 amp connectors and if one is not careful, the crimp is not tight enough to allow the connector to snap in place smoothly, particularly with the 30 amp version. After using the PWR crimp tool my crimps were correct each time and the crimped connector snapped into the plastic housing smoothly each time.

The only complaint I have with the tool is that for us left handed types the tool fixturing is set up for those who are right handed. Its a bit inconvenient to do the crimp process in what is seemingly an awkward way. However even with that disadvantage, the tool works well. I would recommend it for those who are doing lots of connections using the powerpole type connector
