Excellent Performance Time Owned: 3 to 6 months.
This is the finest transceiver I've operated in this price range. I tried several others (including the FT-2000) before purchasing the Icom and the 756ProIII is hands down the best.

Operation is very intuitive, no need to keep the manual on the operating desk. The receiver is extremely quiet, and sensitive enough that I rarely need to use the preamp(s). The noise blanker is extremely effective, and of course, adjustable. The DSP works superbly on stray signals and noise, and the band-pass filter options are astounding. The transmit audio is outstanding, and infinitely adjustable. And the spectrum scope has quickly become indispensable!

I'm keeping my IC-746 for portable use since it covers 2 meter sideband, and it makes a good field EmComm rig.

P.S. - I mainly operate SSB and RTTY. YMMV.

Intuitive operation, No PHd required Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I have not found a single advertised feature that doesn't work flawlessly with this radio. I really wanted a new FT-2000, but half the "features" on it are non-functus! When and if I ever get a new IC-7700, it'll probably outperform the PRO III, but that doesn't take away from the fact that the PRO is way above the latest from Yaesumoto. I also have a "Field". I like it, but can never put the manual away. The PRO III is infinitely easier to use and every bit as good a radio. I am basically a casual operator and I like the fact that I didn't have to take a college level course on how to operate the Icom. That in itself is a good indicator of a manufacturers' committment to produce a superior product. I've had a PRO longer than any of them and will probably keep it even if I DO get a '7700.

Great Rig!! Time Owned: more than 12 months.
This is a great rig.
Giving it a 1 (like I saw in here) is so ridiculous it's stupid!!
Maybe they don't understand how use it??

I had the PROII,traded for a 950SDX,missed it so much I got the PROIII.
Receiver is great just set up the filters properly. Transmit audio is excellent considering the 2.9k restriction. The FT2K & 950SDX are better in the Fidelity area. But this 1 easily holds it's own!!

It's very user friendly & well worth the $$$.

One of my favorites. Time Owned: 3 to 6 months.
For me the PROIII is hard to beat for the price if you really take a long hard look at it's features and what it does. This is the first radio I've owned with the spectrum scope built in. Great tool once you get use to using it. I think the DSP is really good for a radio in this price. The adjustable filtering, PBT, notch and autonotch I really, really like. Only one roofing filter, but hey man, it does work. NR is really good as well. Although I don't use them often, the preamp does help when needed. The NB does work. I think some folks have been too crtical of it though. I love the build quality. And at 20lbs, you can tote it portable. It may take a while to really run the rig though its capable paces to see for yourself how well it operates in all that it will do. But if you have the chance at a freinds shack, give it a try. Great signal reports SSB with the stock mic for me. Does well in CW. Dual watch is handy.

All in all a great little package. Although I just bought the IC7700, I can't see getting rid of the IC756PROIII. They look really good sitting next to each other. The 910H, 7000, 756PROIII, and 7700 sre the only radios that I have yet to regret buying. The IC756PROIII is still one of my favorites.

fantastic ! Time Owned: 3 to 6 months.
I owned a TS-440, TS-950 and TS-870, all nice and reliable radios.
But the IC756ProIII beats them all. The receiver picks up even very weak signals out of the noise, the best rig I ever bought.

What I want to get in the Pro IV ?
Well, the notch filter should be in the signal path before the ALC and not after it.

Bang for your bux Time Owned: 6 to 12 months.
I have had this rig long enuf to review...great rcvr! Very quiet noise floor compared to other rigs I have, all the filters built in..none to buy. Ergonomics are great imo. Easy to use and learn to use. Band scope is fantastic, I don't want to be without it anymore. No problems at all with this one and should do the job for me many years to come. I'm cw only and use the qsk all the time and qsk works just as nicely as my tentec omni v, which is vy good.

Test Drive Report Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I was at a friend's house who has had this radio for quite a bit. He states that it is only his fourth rig in his long amateur career.

Upon test driving this work of absolute art, I was in love with this sweet machine! The DSP filters, notch filter, receiver, graphic display, the whole package just blew me away completely!

Used with this radio was a Steppir and an 80 Meter dipole. We worked many countries like gangbusters, even getting through pile - up's with ease. Band conditions were horrible and yet we worked the world!

Split operation was a breeze. My mind is made up for a dream rig!

Great Tranceiver Time Owned: 6 to 12 months.
I have owned the 756 Pro III for 12 months now and have been pleased with it. Its a great transceiver – reception is clear and clean and reasonably immune to overload - and on transmit I often get good feedback on transmitted audio quality – I use an Heil 781 microphone with it and use chokes on all leads to and from the transceiver.
My first 756ProII went faulty – an issue with the master oscillator. Icom repaired it and the same thing happened again. The rig got swapped out for a new one and for the past 9 months I have no other issues with the transceiver.
The aux sockets are well thought out and are easy to wire up – and with that, the audio eq / processing bypass modes and the in built RTTY filter and decoder the 756 ProIII is a delight to use for digi modes...
The dual watch and split modes are all well implemented and with the GUI are all easy to use.
Negative points? A few – the audio amp seems to distort without going particularly loud. The inbuilt speaker is weak. There appears no way I can find to record off air and playback that recording over the air. The analogue meter dial is not as easy to see as it should be and the power and mic gain knobs are too small – especially as these knobs are frequently adjusted, however – these are really rather minor points – and the transceiver is a truly fantastic bit of kit allowing you to really enjoy working the airwaves.
