Great product Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
This interface and cable was a delight to use. Shipping was incredably fast and the components used speak towards quality. Is this cable expensive? No. The modular design allows me to use it with several of my rigs and I do not have to waste my life at Radio Shack looking for adapters and hoping they will work. From the other posts I assume that support would have been first rate - but it was not necessary. I was up an running within 10 minutes.

So easy to make you should do it yourself and save $$$ Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
Convenient but too expensive

You can buy a USB to serial adaptor for $10 or less. These days most adaptors use the FTDI chip set and drivers just like the TTL2USB box does. Driver installation in Windows XP is usually smooth but sometimes you will have a problem. This is true of this device as well. It does not use any custom drivers. If you have multiple virtual serial devices, you may have problems (issues like changing com ports on boot up, etcetera.)

Anyway, pick up a $10 USB to serial adaptor then buy a Maxim MAX233 or MAX233A or MAX234 TTL to RS232 chip (Check the data sheet and pick the chip version that suits you). These cost about $4.00 in single quantity. This chip, some junk box connectors (or a trip to Radio Shack) and an hour of your time will save you $20 to $30. Plus, it is a fun and easy item to build and you can learn a little electronics if you do not have a lot of experience in this area.

There is a lot of information available on-line regarding the Maxim chips.

You can get the Maxim chip and all the other parts you need from Jameco electronics at http://www.jameco.com

Feel free to email me if you need some help making your own TTL to serial interface.

I can't begin to say how great this product is! Fast replies with emails and fast shipping. It has made programming my VX-7RB a pleasure. The support is second to none. It is worth every penny and then some! One can tell that Rob has a lot of pride in his product. Don't hesitate to purchase!

Works well & great service! Time Owned: 3 to 6 months.
I can't speak too highly of the device or the customer service.

The big advantage to this device is being able to use a USB port, now available on the front panel of most computers, rather than a serial port. Many recent computers, mine included only come with one serial port on the back. There are already too many devices competing for this lone difficult to access port.

As anyone can attest, it can try the patience and numb the mind and fingers trying to program this little jewel of a radio manually when there are many frequencies involved. This device, with the excellent Commander software makes it a breeze.

Because of less than ideal production tolerance a few VX2's like mine have a problem with good fit in the clone plug. No problem, Rob sent me an adapter that worked and am now up and running. He displays the kind of integrity and customer service that is rare to find anymore.

Well worth it. Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I've owned a VX-2R for a few months and was growing frustrated with the somewhat tedious programming procedures, made even more so by the rigs small size. And given the VX-2's massive number of memory channels, I would have developed carpal tunnel or gone crazy long before I keyed all of my scanlists into the tiny rig.

I purchased a CT-29B based on the good reviews here, and have not been disappointed. In conjunction with the excellent VX-2 Commander software, I was able to easily bend the rig to my will, as a previous reviewer so aptly put it. Just a couple of hours over the course of an evening and my little VX-2 was programmed to the hilt.

And I didn't even need to wade through the rats nest of cabling behind my desk to find an open serial port, the CT-29B plugged right into my USB hub and I was off and running.

Now if I could only get one for my Kenwood TH-G71! I'd like to see a common usb/ttl interface cable with interchangeable connectors for various rigs.

works excellent Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I ordered the Type: "CT-29A USB to 2.5mm".
I recieved "CT-29A USB to 2.5mm" whith a 3.5mm 4pol Plug. Ok, no problem, bought a stereo adapter "3,5mm femal to 2,5mm male" for 2 Euro.
Absolutly easy installation; works great! I use this unit on different computers, USB1.1 / 2.0 whithout any trouble. Now with this unit and the software VX-7 Commander I realy can use my YEASU VX-7R the way i like it.

Wonderful product !! Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I have had nothing but problems with all those so-called serial interfaces. This one required finding the driver and then finding out what port it was using. After that, no problems. Easy to use with my VX-2R. The CDROM that came with it was smashed in transit but their website has all the info anyway so I got it from there. Customer service is amazing. I sent a message at midnight and Rob must be up all hours because I got an immediate answer. What a great product. PS. I have no stock in this company, only a very, very satisfied customer....

Terrific product. It plugs -- it plays -- it bends a VX-7R to its will. Worth the price just to erase erroneously programmed memories.

Item works just as advertised. No fuss no muss!! Just one minor complaint. The CD-ROM disc was not in a protective sleeve. Other than that installation was painless, and programming the radio is too. I highly recommend this product. And they answer emails quickly.
