Excellent Receiver Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
The SX-122 is an excellent receiver. Dual conversion (no images on SW) and has fairly sharp filters at 5KHz, 2.5KHz and 500Hz. Like the Drake receivers, it is located at the 2nd 50KHz I.F. for excellent filter skirts. Dial calibration is very good and the receiver is sensitive at 30MHz as on lower frequencies. It does not have much drift even on SSB. SSB uses a product detector for effortless SSB reception. It has a noise limiter, built in calibrator and a function switch with AM, USB and LSB. I owned other receivers such as Hallicrafters SX-71, SX-101, SX-111, SX-88, National NC-303 and this receiver works as well if not better and the built in SSB product detector places it as superior to the other older Hallicrafters receivers. Likely the best bet for a General Coverage tube receiver at reasonable cost. An AM-COM DNR speaker works wonders on the SX-122.

Great Receiver Time Owned: more than 12 months.
The Hallicrafter SX-122 (.54-34 MHZ) is a surprisingly good performer. The receiver is quite sensitive and receives SSB very well with it's built in product detector. The alignment of the receiver is straight forward, but critical to obtain good performance. The tuning controls are smooth and pleasant with the weighted flywheels. Audio is clean, and adequate to power a bookshelf speaker like the Bose 101. While it is not an R-390,or a Collins 51J-4, the Hallicrafter SX-122 is a twenty-nine pound receiver that us old guys can still lift!

Product Detector makes the difference. Time Owned: more than 12 months.
The inclusion of a product detector is what separates this receiver from previous Hallicrafters general coverage receivers. The product detector makes SSB and CW reception a pleasure and eliminates the possibility of getting "blasted" by a strong signal. Not as "pretty" as an SX-100 but a lot more practical for present day amateur use.

Really nice G.C. RCVR. One of the last great Hallicrafters. Time Owned: more than 12 months.
Nice G.C. receiver that would easily tune SSB, CW, and AM. Controls were "human engineered" and built into a veritable tank, not unlike most Hallicrafters equipment. Mr. Halligan believed in "brute force stability", achieved in part by sheer weight and rigidity. My only complaint (and this may be only with my particular radio) is a noticable (6 dB) fall-off in sensitivity above 25 MHz.

Excellent Radio Time Owned: more than 12 months.
Bought mine used in 1967...was my mainstay Ham receiver until 1973. Used for SWL until very recently, and still have in my hamshack as an outboard receiver to monitor my signals, get WWV, etc. Best receiver I have ever owned, and even today, one of the most sensitive. If you can get one, they are a piece of history that is still very useful.

Great sensitivity Time Owned: more than 12 months.
Hallicrafters built the SX-122 like a tank. This radio has four bands covering .54 to 1600 Khz and 17.5-34 Mhz. Its two IF stages at 1650 Khz and 50 Khz allow the listener to enjoy CW and SSB broadcasts. Aside from the super sensitivity this radio has, the tuner and bandspread dials spin effortlessly assuring very fine tuning. I expect this radio to provide many years of great SW listening. - Mike KG6UEQ
