HEATHKIT HW 24 H OUTSTANDING RIG Time Owned: 3 to 6 months.
Love the rig vhf/uhf and this baby is built like a tank! I believe it was built bu Vertex Standard for Heathkit but this radio is fabolous! No intermod issues and more also so many features to list ! BAND IN BAND TRASMIT AND RECEIEVE AND CROSSBAND FULL DUPLEX ! If you come across on of these in good shape grab it it will last you a life time! Sad to say Heathkit is gone along with Vertex but they made some great radios in the day !

Excellent dual bander, reliable and well built Time Owned: 3 to 6 months.
The HW-24 has been my main rig for monitoring repeaters at home for the last few months. Made by Standard for Heathkit in the very late '80s and early 90s these are reliable, solid rigs. The HW-24 has very good audio on both transmit and receive, nice dual display (blue on black background), 20 memories including two call channels, the ability to program tones individually into each memory. I have the low power version which puts out 10W on each band. I've found it adequate but I live in a major metro area.

I really like this rig but I am parting with it to upgrade to a tribander. If you don't need 222MHz and a 2m/70cm dual bander is what you want you really can't go wrong with an HW-24. The only issue may be service as I am not sure who, if anyone, works on these any more.
