Description:
Got more than one transceiver? Now you can operate the sound card modes without buying additional interfaces. Simply change from your HF transceiver to the VHF/UHF transceiver by unplugging the HF cable and inserting a different transceiver cable. By using transformer isolation for the transmit and Receive audio paths, we prevent ground loop coupling, and reduce the chance of RF feedback into the PC sound card (squeals, hum, etc). To further reduce RF feedback and RF ingress into the Tx or Rx sound card audio, we install a large (molded) ferrite core over the RASCAL to sound card audio I/O cable(s). The end result is clean, clear, audio, reproduction on-the-air. An added benefit of these preventive measures is the reduction of IMD.

Good Kit Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
This Kit was very easy to build, no problems with the instructions or diagrams given. a color picture would have been nice to show exact locations placement of the wires for cables and also explaination of the proper polarization of the caps in the circuit should have noted that the caps provided did not have any since they are polyester types changed from older kits design of tantalum types. Worked the first time after building kit, I would buy again from BuxComm. Arrived 2 days after I ordered it from West coast via snail mail. I will be looking to find a way to keep the cable tied down better than the way that was provided too.

Has an issue Time Owned: 3 to 6 months.
The Bux Comm RASCAL is a sound card interface for packet and PSK modes. It basically, as I understand it, uses a personal computer to replace a TNC for digital modes. These are an inexpensive alternative to the much higher price TNC. The components are high quality and as the add says, the go together quickly. Once assembled, I was able to connect to the local 2 meter node easily after some fiddling with computer and radio sound adjustments. The RASCAL really works. I would give it a 5 but the kit version has an issue with the way the cables are attached to the board. I have had to re solder all of the leads on the board at least 3 times as they keep breaking off. the kit has a zip-tie strain releif that is supposed to limit the movement of the tiny little wires that attach to the board. While it prevents the wires from being yanked out of the case, it does not limit movement of the cable it self which has flex enough to break what are very small wires. Bux Comm would do well to look at the strain relief for the cable. Perhaps some sort of grommet that would grip the cable and keep it from flexing and fatiguing the wires. This is an otherwise good product and that does what it says it will do. Bux Comm provides good support for their products. What I have not worked with is the commercially prepared version, so I my experience is limited to the kit version. Your experience may be different.
