Always complemented Time Owned: more than 12 months.
Tried many Heil microphones and when I switched to the PR-40 from the PR-781 people noticed. Works great on a radio that will pass the audio and bandwidth. The receiver also has to be close to the tx bandwidth to appreciate it. DX settings on radio with the PR-40 is also a improvement .

Extraordinary quality Time Owned: more than 12 months.
Primarily used for my Zoom presentations and not "on the air." I am a firm believer of providing the best audio quality for my audiences - especially since many are listening with headphones or earbuds. Audiences might "forgive" minor video "glitches" - but do NOT scrimp on audio! No EQ needed. My PR40 is fed into a PreSonus TubePre pre-amp, and in to my MacBook Pro. Could not ask for better sound quality. "It all begins in the mic ... " - a wise man told me.

What a smooth sounding microphone Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I bought a PR40BG to use in addition to my PR781. I wondered if it would be worth the cost, but bought it based on so many comments from other folks and reviews. Using the SAME settings in my Mic EQ I use for the PR781 I've owned several years, the first time I heard the PR40 I was amazed at the positive difference from the PR781. The PR40 sounds MUCH smoother. It is noticeably different. Don't get me wrong, the 781 sounds good. But you can definitely tell the PR40 has a fuller....smoother sound. I've only owned it a few days and made a few QSOs....so I can't comment to what others may or will say about my audio. But I feel confident, it will be nothing but positive.

I'm already convinced in the very short time I've owned it.....it was worth every penny spent. Big thumbs up!

Real quality Time Owned: more than 12 months.

In the last 10 years and tested at least five studio microphones, I will not go into details, we know that it is one of the best radio microphones, but keep in mind that the transmission quality is not only the microphone, you it has to have a radio that has an equalizer and a higher bandwidth, I use it with my ts-990 and in every contact made, they always praise the quality of the audio transmitted, excellent microphone,
Thank you

100% Recomendable!
Gracias!

Great micphone Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I been having the pr-40 for little bit now.first of all it looks good right out of the box. It's nice looking micphone. And have gotten some good sound reports back saying how good it sounds. I got hook it up to an 8 band w2ihy equalizer. And With both of them together the sound quality is out standing

Good Enough For SiriusXM Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
On May 18th, I was at he SiriusXM studios in New York. There are over 40 studios. The majority of the DJ and talk show studios were equipped with the Heil PR-40. I believe these replaced the ubiquitous RE-20. SXM can afford to buy whatever microphone they want but this is what they are using.
Presently, I use the Heil PR-781 which replaced my first Heil, an HM-12 on my Kenwood TS-2000. I have no external audio processing, nor do I want any.

Couldn't be better. Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I have used my PR40 on Yaesu 991, 3000 and 5000 rigs and without question have received nothing put praise from all contacts, although I have a selection of Heil mics, I generally run the PR40, I am absolutely delighted with it

Heil PR-40 is the Mercedes of Microphones Time Owned: more than 12 months.
The PR-40 is absolutely superb. I use one for the Ham shack and as a broadcast/audio production microphone. In all applications it is professional. We have used these microphones in all types of international locations for broadcast production and they perform flawlessly! My K3 gets absolutely superb audio on-air reports. If you want to sound excellent, have punch and stand above other signals, the PR-40 is the one for you!

I run this PR-40 with my IC-7800 and it sound's GREAT. I don't use any audio mixer's in between the mic and radio. I just set the Bass and Treb. in the radio and use this mic and I get GREAT audio from this mic. I can't say anything bad about this GREAT mic.. Mark W2YM 73's.

Great Value for the $$ Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I work in broadcasting in the Dallas, TX market. I use the PR-40 in my studio and in my ham shack. It's a GREAT performer in both venues.

Compared to the more expensive Electro-Voice RE-20, the PR-40 has a better sound 'out of the box' and doesn't have the muddy sound that many report with the RE-20.

For commercial radio, I run the PR-40 through a Symetrix 528-E processor. On the ham bands, I use the W2IHY "EQ Plus" and "Eight Band EQ". Both units match up well to the PR-40.

For a mike cage and boom, I do prefer the Electro-Voice model 309A cage and boom compared to the Heil product. The EV tougher. I also use a riser to put the mike at a better angle.

If you're looking for quality as well as a great value for the price, go with the Heil PR40.
