Great Tx audio!!! Time Owned: 3 to 6 months.
I have owned several Heil mics for several years and been very pleased with them. Last December, I really splurged and bought a couple of Yeasu radios, an FT-2000 and an FTdx-9000MP. I had acouple of e-mail exchanges with Bob Heil and decided to use the PR-40 for the FTdx-9000MP and the settings he recommended for the 9K. The reports I'm getting on my Tx audio are truly rewarding!! I've never been much for "high fidelity SSB" but, these mics sure changed my mind! Great stuff!!

Excellent Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I guess all I can do is add to the pile of "5's" on this microphone.

Or maybe "high-fives."

Only had this mike two weeks now but I must say it's an outstanding product. Plug it directly into my rigs with no external preamp or EQ, and it works very well -- flat response, so what you get is set by the transmitter, not the mike.

I also like being able to close-talk the front of the mike while it rejects sounds from the sides and rear quite well. I can use it aiming at me, with a noisy amplifier (blower) directly behind it, and it doesn't pick up the noise at all.

The mike does appear strong enough to drive nails with. I have a construction project coming up soon, and will try that.

:-)

Nah, probably not.

As good as it gets Time Owned: 3 to 6 months.
Bob Heil does it again. I've been using a Goldline Pro for awhile with the W2IHY 8 band eq on my TS 480 sat and IC-706 mark2G, but I wanted to have a mic dedicated to my Flex SDR 1000, so I chose the PR40 and run it right into the balanced input of the FA66 sound box. The results are astounding. The sound, look and quality of this mic makes it a great choice.

Match made in Heaven Time Owned: 6 to 12 months.
All you need is this mic and the Kenwood TS-870 and you have a match made in heaven. What a combination! The PR40 straight into the front of the 870 and you dont need all that outboard audio gear to have superb sounding transmit audio. This is a fine microphone that works as advertised. Very well crafted and great looks to boot. I'm well pleased with mine.

The Only Mic You'll Ever Need. Time Owned: 3 to 6 months.
I purchased my PR-40 over the summer after speaking with Bob Heil. I am sure glad that I purchased the PR-40. I must tell you that I went from an HMi and ProSet Plus IC set up on a IC-756pro to the PR-40 and it made all of difference in the world in the audio reports that I received. I used to get good audio reports on the HMi and wide IC cart, but now I get GREAT audio reports with the PR-40. The mic is flat in its response (like it should) and I have it hooked up to a W2IHY 8 band eq. for both noise gate and eq. Also, GET the shock mount from Heil and buy a pop screen. The EV shock mount costs more and it is your choice on the pop screen. You'll never have to buy another mic so go the distance once and buy the PR-40.

Great choice Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I've been in the broadcast business for well over 40-years and on the air every week. I have a good idea of how great audio is supposed to be.
After talking with Bob Heil on the phone, I decided to upgrade from the Goldline to the PR-40. That was the best move I've made in over 50-years of hamming.
I have a broadcast/recording studio near the ham shack and even use the 40 for commercial work.
I also own W2IHY gear, and quickly discovered that even though I love the IHY equipment, I truly don't need it since using the PR-40 with my ICOM 756 PROII. I do not get any popping nor any other external noises associated with some other microphones. I have a great mix of low and high end audio that gets very positive reports from around the world! And Heil's service rates as some of the best in the industry.

Fantastic audio Time Owned: 3 to 6 months.
This is a great microphone. I used it with the Yaesu FT1000MP Mk-V and was given great audio reports, I now have upgraded to the FT2000 with its built in microphone equaliser and you can tune the audio perfectly for ragchewing or DXing. Build quality is fantastic, and I recommend the colour matched shock mount to go with it.
Save up its worth it. 73 - Jim - MM0DXH

Gotta Love It!! Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I had the pleasure of meeting Bob and Sarah at HRO NH just before the 2006 New England ARRL Convention. While setting up the FTDX-9000 (used for the W1A special event station) at the convention Bob came over and showed me how to set up the audio for that radio...and Classic Pro mic (which was donated to the W1A cause by Bob).

Chip Margelli came over a little while after Bob left and changed the audio settings, with me sitting there. When Chip left I changed them back to Bob's settings...just had to get that in there...sorry Chip...hope your new boss doesn't see this...hi hi.

After Boxboro I brought the Classic Pro mic home along with the FTDX-9000 and played around with them before bringing the radio to HRO the following morning. I used the Classic Pro on my FT-1000D for a couple of days and it sounded pretty good. I have the W2IHY 8-band Equalizer which added to the audio quality.

After comparing the specs to all the Heil mics I decided to try the PR40 in place of the Classic Pro. Not only do I like the way the mic sounds I like the way it looks in my shack. The PL2T boom is a great addition to the shack as well and I like it much better than the older Heil boom that's been a part of my shack for over 10 years now. Sorry Bob, but I purchased the wind screen, spit filter or whatever you want to call it for the mic at Radio Shack. I may be cheap on some accessories but not where the quality counts. The PR40 is a great mic!!!

Whow..PR40 the best Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
Whow... heard so much about the PR40, bought one at Dayton 2 weeks ago and I am 100% satisfied. Bob did not promise toooooo much. The PR40 with W2IHY EQplus and Ft 1000 MK5 is a great combo. Got the best audio reports ever. (I still have some other Heil equipment like HM10, Quitphone, Handy etc... but PR40 is the winner)
Greetings out of Munich, Germany
