Old reliable Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I replaced by old DX160 with this. I literally wore the buttons off of it chasing so much DX. It was a good, solid rig that had enough sensitivity for serious DX. But it needed a tuning knob as using the "up/down" buttons really was a major hassle.

Reliable old plowhorse Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I bought mine new in '85 when I was a starving student. Not a Ten-Tec rig, but it has been problem-free and easy to use all along. I listen in conjunction w/a freq/program list, rather than scanning (no tuning knob).

Direct entry keypad is easy to use and it is great if you want to go directly to a specific freqency or program. This is its best feature (no up/dn slewing buttons).

The external antenna lugs are preferable to the usual 'phone plug, but the whip is usually just fine. No way to disable the whip, however, so it fights w/an external antenna when you have it hooked up.

BFO is cranky (AKA: not "slow" enough) and hard to use for SSB unless you happen to be dead-on the frequency. Especially bad w/Ham traffic because of the limited resolution to which the tuner will go (1kHz).

Audio is great on FM stereo w/phones. Great starter set to give someone starting in the hobby w/o costing an arm and a leg.

not bad Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I bought mine at an estate sale for five bucks. You can't go wrong at a price like that.
The unit provides excellent frequency coverage. The receiver isn't as sensitive as I would like it to be, though. I like to tune in to "pirate" broadcasts, and experience difficulties pulling in the weaker stations. I have it connected to a random long wire antenna, at least eighty feet long and twelve feet off the ground.
There isn't any modification information out there.
