GREAT FOR M/M Time Owned: 3 to 6 months.
THESE ARE A GREAT LITTLE RADIO,THEY ARE AS TOUGH AS OLD BOOTS.I USE ONE ON BOARD A SMALL SPEED BOAT ITS BEEN DROPPED SOAKED USED & ABUSED & STILL WORKS 100%.THE AUDIO I HAVE BEEN TOLD IS A LITTLE ON THE TINNY SIDE WITH THE STANDARD MIKE SO I SWAPPED IT WITH A M6 POWER MIKE,SUBSTANTIAL IMPROVEMENT WAS REPORTED.THE VERTEX CAN BE PICKED UP VERY CHEAP IN THE UK AS VARIOUS MARINE FLEET USERS ARE IN THE PROCESS OF RE-FITS DUE TO NEW TYPE APPROVAL LAWS THIS YEAR.GO GET ONE NOW.

The VX-1210 is a Pedestrian, Mobile, or Portable lightweight HF SSB/CW/AM complete manpack unit with 25 Watt TX output. 1.6 to 30MHz continuous transmit. VFO plus 500 channel memories. Internal Lithium Ion battery pack, internal/integrated autotuner, antenna mount on front panel. Get the selcall option too... it works great. Rainproof but not submersible.

Good reliable Radio Time Owned: more than 12 months.
have own this radio for about 3 years, found to be a very good reliable unit, very well made and mine came with the optional internal antenna tuner and goose neck adapter,
The tuner unit is very powerful with 500 memories, it is able to tune a random wire in about 10 sec. the battery pack is a lithium Ion, 14.4 Volts, it last for about 24 hrs on RX and about 8 to 10 hrs in normal SSB operation, for Data modes run only 5 watts because is 25% duty, the battery charges in about 3 hrs, the radio weight is 7 lb, very light compare to other military sets, the unit has 500 memories ch's, you have a VFO to tune in the Ham bands, you need to program unit with all the Ham bands, the units comes blank from factory, modes are USB, LSB,CW, AFSK and AM

The whip OEM antennas are very expensive and do not work that well, after much test with different antennas, I found the Proamp fiberglass antennas work the best for long DX or NVIS operation, I have use this radio in Mexico and Costa Rica and North Ontario and no problems.

you have options like coded audio and sel call,

There is a VX12 yahoo group where you can find a lot of info on the set
