OUTSTANDING PERFORMER Time Owned: unknown months.
I have had the HS-1500 mounted on my 1991 GMC Safari van for 17 months and nearly 70,000 miles now. The radio in use has been an ICOM 706mkllG. After having used Hamsticks,Hustler,Spider,Outbacker and others I can truly ask myself; "why did I wait so long to try this antenna"? I have it mounted off the left rear corner of the van on a custom made extension of my class 2 trailer hitch. The top of the coil housing is just above the roof line and when operating 75 meters the total extended height is 13'4". The extension was fabricated by a local trailer hitch shop to my specifications. The performance has been nothing short of superb. Except for the VERY big pileups,I have been able to work most anything I can hear, usually with a very nice compliment about the signal strength of "the mobile signal". The construction of the antenna and mount is very robust and I expect many years of service from it. The only improvement I would like to see is limit switches at the end of travel rather than just the LED indicator. I can truly recommend this antenna for performance, construction and ease of operation!

Excellent Mobile Antenna Time Owned: unknown months.
I bought my antenna at the Pacificon '99. I finally took the time to mount it on my pickup truck. I designed a simple mount out of 1/4" thick hot rolled steel plate so the antenna in the factory mount sits just at the rear of the cab with the top of the whip at 13' 3" or so. I "grounded" the antenna with a piece of 2" wide copper strap (purchased from the local heating and ventillation shop) to the truck bed and to the cab. SWR is < 1.5:1 on all bands 80 through 10 Meters. I'm very pleased with performance. I work the East coast daily from the truck during my commute run and frequently when in the mountains between San Jose, CA and Santa Cruz to the west. I really enjoy being able to switch bands with so little effort. I also remove the antenna in the evenings and when I leave the truck at the airport, for example. It takes about 15 seconds to loosen the clamp and stow both the upper whip (with it's quick disconect) and the loading coil/motor section in the cab of the truck. I think you'll really like the custom cable the factory supplies for mobile installations. Jim and Eileen Heath, Owners of High Sierra in Grass Valley, CA are great to deal with. Quality is as advertised. You'll be pleased with this antenna and the convenience. 73's John

A great mobil antenna! Time Owned: unknown months.
I purchased a Model 1500 High Sierra antenna last spring. Mounted it on my Chrysler Town & Country Van with a combination of a home made mount and the High Sierra all purpose mount. The antenna's design is sturdy and easily removeable. It requires a good RF ground, which I achieved through the mounting system. It tunes 80-10 meters with a 102 inch whip as the stinger. I use the SWR meter in the radio for tuning purposes. This antenna gets great signal reports and hears well. If I hear 'em I can work 'em. I using an FT-100 barefoot.
