Review Summary For : Palstar PM2000A Wattmeter
Reviews: 36MSRP: 159.95
Description:
The PM2000A measures and displays forward power, reflected power, and SWR simultaneously on it's dual movement meter system, in the frequency range 1.8MHz to 60 MHz. Accuracy of the readings is assured because the PM2000A features a true shielded directional coupler. The backlit meter can display either peak or average power readings, and has 300 and 3000 watt range settings. The PM2000A is the next generation of watt meters from Palstar. All of the features of the WM150 are intergrated into the PM2000A, but it can measure up to 2kW, and also has a 2 second PEAK/HOLD capability.

Control de calidad/3 Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.

Works Well Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
The following are my personal observations and opinions: This meter works as advertised and the calibration seems to be reasonably close to accurate. I removed the cover to take a look inside and I was pleasantly surprised at the "Made in USA" that was stamped on the meter movement itself. I don't like dual needle meters, I would prefer 2 separate single needle meters, but this aspect was obvious before I got the wattmeter. Not so pleasant are the SO-239 coaxial connectors that are secured to the cabinet with a single large nut and lockwasher, the type with a square mounting flange with a hole at each corner is better, it doesn't work loose with use, even if only 2 mounting screws are used. It's a minor point, but I would be willing to pay the extra dollar for the better quality connectors and the extra time involved for installing 2 nuts and bolts vs. 1 nut and lockwasher. Otherwise, the quality of construction seems good, the circuit boards and the cabinet are nicely done, no Made From Junk here. With 2KW capability and true "peak" and "peak hold" functions, this is an excellent station accessory.

Finally!! A True "PEP" Meter with Hold!! Time Owned: 6 to 12 months.
This is a very clean easy to operate, and Tough wattmeter! And it comes with everything needed to get on the air! It requires *12vdc for the PEP function to operate, the Folks at Palstar include a 12vdc wall wart free of charge with every meter! Unlike some others that either do not tell you it needs power to operate or tell you and say it needs “their $13.95 power supply” to operate! I have checked it against a Bird 43 into a dummy load, and the Bird read 20, and 150 watts, The PM2000A read 20 and 148 (Approximately) and the PM2000A matched the Bird at 500, 900, 1200, and 1500 watts on the money!!
I regularly tune my Ten-Tec Centurion Amp using this meter and it has never glitched at all! Not Once! I have melted other meters Like the Yeasu YM-60 PEP reading meter!
The PM2000A is easy to understand and Simple Operation, Well-diffused Backlight in it makes meter very easy to see. I am sight challenged and the numbering is on the border of being a little small, but it is Very Crisp and Sharp so it makes up in legibility for it's lack of size.
I have bought several wattmeter’s in the past that have said in their advertisement they were "Peak Reading" meters, Such as the ManuFactured Junk and a Daiwa CN-101L, I think if there is a law about truth in advertising they should be sued! They do not read PEP or peak at all!!
The people at Palstar are the best to deal Bar None! My Wife orderd my meter for Christmas, for me and because of a snafu at the Dealer, the order did not reach the factory until a couple of days after Christmas, when it did not arrive as she had been promised I called the factory direct, of course they were closed for the holidays, so I sent an e-mail, Paul Hrivnak, checked it while he was off and read my e-mail, He took the time out of his holiday to go to the shop put one of the meters together, test it out, packed it and shipped it Express Mail, and I had it in my hands before the New Year!! Now that is service!

Note * All true PEP, Peak Reading wattmeter’s require voltage to read PEP! If a wattmeter you are looking at does not “require power to operate” then it is not a true PEP Meter!

Finally a peak hold meter Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I bought it mainly due to the urge for a true peak hold meter. The actively driven needles are quite respnsive as well. When in a QSO a quick glance at the meter will tell you how much you're actively trasmitting with. No more watching over the meter to see how much you're peaking at. -Great.

An excellent addition to my shack Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
This is a very nice power meter, that is very versatile (e.g., peak-hold), appears to be accurate (compared against my Bird wattmeter), and looks great!

I'm enjoying using it in my shack.
