A great little shortwave radio Time Owned: more than 12 months.
My Dad bought this for me in 1984 (at 47th Street Photo in NYC) and I was hooked ever since. Still have it in my shack and still works great. It's in absolutely mint condition despite having moved around the world several times.

very pleaseing cheep radio Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
very good radio for 20 odd years old has a nice sound to it,bfo is a bit to intence it needs to be a little slower nice counter works on ssb.
the only bad things i can say is it is a bit noisey but better than some of the deaf buckets out there is prone to rf from broadcast bands you can buy a filter for this.3khz filter ok but 2.5 khz would have been better.this radio was a one owner who died and as a result i got it on ebay for 80 pounds, very good nick with manual and looks to have had new capacitors and a new ssb filter caps are the new dark blue type and has a new yellow ssb filter am filter is black, clean inside and out a good buy if you ask me...jeff

Good receiver Time Owned: 3 to 6 months.
OK, since I own an RF-3100 I'll be the first to review it.

I also own the Panasonic RF-2200, RF-2800 and RF-2900. If I were to rate the four in terms of "favorites," I'd rate the 3100 second after the 2200. (There's just something about the simplicity and sensitivity and design of the 2200 that Panasonic tried to better in several subsequent models and, IMHO, failed.) But the RF-3100 is still a good, albeit very different, radio.

The 3100's shortwave coverage is broken up into 1MHZ segments with only an overlap of about 100KHZ or so. So that breaks many of the broadcast bands into two different bands on the radio. I find that it's most inconvenient aspect.

It also "sits" on a table or desk more like a conventional ham radio. Obviously it has a larger footprint than many vertical receivers but the case is sturdy enough to plop down some not too heavy (or wet) objects on top.

Its sensitivity rates pretty close if not equal to the 2200 on MW and maybe a hair or two better on SW. The sound quality is very pleasing to the ear.

As a sub-$100 buy on Ebay, it's not bad. Not bad at all.
